Felix Sim for Home Internet

Hi there, I am in need of an alternate internet connection, potentially short term.
I have a new Felix Sim which is activated, and a TP-Link VX420-G2h router (this previously worked when I had a TP-Link 4g connection)

Does anyone know the settings I may need to apply to the router in order for the 4g connection to with through the Felix Sim?

Have tried googling, found apn live.vodafone.com but isn't working and not sure if other settings need to apply

Thank you

  • I've had Felix working in a different 4G router before, with minimal configuration. Firstly are you sure that router is compatible with Felix 4G bands? Band 1,3,5,7

    • If you had a different SIM in the router before, it might be worth doing a factory reset to clear out an old settings, APNS etc

    • Remember to make 4G the Primary Internet Connection, (Internet Settings or Operation Mode). Might need to disable WAN/NBN initally to configure it.

    • Try these APNs manually https://help.felixmobile.com.au/support/solutions/articles/5…

    • Felix doesn't use Band 7.

    • Thinking to run Felix on router too. "While you can hotspot to your own devices, felix mobile plans are specifically for mobile phones and not for use in devices like modems or dongles." From your experience, how strict Felix monitor this?

      • Its used by seniors, so low data usage. Never had any concerns.

  • Wait you guys are using routers? I thought that was forbidden?

    • Definitely forbidden, but this same question resurges once every few months :(

  • -2

Felix uses Optus, and Optus has banned all devices they don't like (as of this year? not sure)

Not sure if that affects Felix, but I recently got an optus sim to hammer their 'unlimited downloads on weekends', and found it wouldn't work in my B818 or my Huawei 4g usb stick or any of my second phones.

    • I believe felix is owned by TPG/Vodafone. But yeah, their website states only approved devices are allowed and i don't think there is any mobile sim router on the list.

Not sure how effective they can manage that.

      • My bad. Yeah they are.

Still, the general point stands that the game has changed, and devices that worked even 6 months ago are not guaranteed to work now

  • Can anyone comment on the uplift in speed to 40 MB compared to 20 MB? Has it improved? Comparable to NBN 50?

  • One of my SIM cards works on the VX420-G2h, but another one - a Vodafone postpaid SIM - does not.

I'm planning to try the MR500 or MR600 router as an alternative.

The TPG/Vodafone 4G router VX420-G2h is unlocked and works with Optus and Telstra networks.

However, it has inconsistent compatibility with Vodafone (both prepaid and postpaid) and Felix Mobile.

The reason for this is unclear.

  • Same here, but using an old dlink dwr922. Never had any issue with other providers and I don't know if Felix blacklisted this device, just can't get it working :-(
