    Imagine paying 5k for a 42" OLED.

    • +4

I would have done it in 1999

    Thanks OP, saved $1695

The real savings are in the comments.

You should have not bought 2 and saved $3390. But at least now you know for next time.

More you buy, more you save

      Big saving by paying $0!

  • +7

It’s actually pretty cool screen can be flat or curve

  • +9

This is actually a decent price if you want a curved large oled display. Just keep in mind that it's quite dim when compared to the normal oleds out there, definitely not for the majority.

    • I found it to be the opposite - I run mine almost at the lowest setting

  • damn this is cheap for what it is, 42" is just so damn big for a monitor

    • +10

Using a C4 42 right now and can confirm, it's big, but awesomely big, not "too" big.

    • +2

Been using a 43inch Samsung monitor daily and love it!

No DisplayPort is a bit of a miss.

    • Was gonna pull the trigger but saw this comment!! 😅

    🤦🤣

Get a spreadsheet up on this baby and you are seriously looking at that document.

    • And that was only a 32" plasma! Imagine it on this bad boy with a pile of Chinese food!

$1.7k is not bad, although the main limiting factor for gaming is that this is a 16:9 screen.

You're better off spending a bit (a lot) more and getting the 5k2k 45" 21:9 screen

    • +17

Yes just casually "better off" spending another $1k.

      • +6

Don't forget the $2000+ GPU that you'd need to run any games natively at that resolution

        • yes this is the main point

    • Not sure how other people game on this size on even a big desk - there’s just too much screen

I have to run COD in windowed mode

    • After having a 21:9 monitor for a bit over a year I have to disagree.
It's been great for mixed work/gaming because I have plenty of room for side by side documents etc but game support for 21:9 can be spotty.
Currently looking for a 16:9 OLED to use for gaming and will probably keep the 21:9 ips strictly for work

Product page: https://www.lg.com/au/lifestyle-screens/flex/42lx3qpsa/ (although spec's section is 'interesting')
    Reviews: https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/lg/42-oled-flex https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/lg/oled-flex

it comes with a USB-A to USB-A cable that serves as an upstream cable to pass data to your PC.

Don't let that cable 'escape into the wild'!

so …..besides being a 2023 product and no display port and permant burn in risk? is there any other flaws?

  • more like $1000 off.

  • This monitor actually looks dope https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Mn232Qfkfs

I have this - bought it earlier in the year when it was around 2k and used a voucher to get it down to 1500

The screen is huge even on my giant desk and I run it about 60% curved. Gaming is immersive but for fast action like COD i have to run it in windowed mode so I can get all the screen in without getting a sore neck

I run a quad windowed mode on the desktop so i can have different things in each quadrant

Is it for everyone? definitely not but I also don't like widescreens and wouldn't go back to a 32" from this

    • any burn in risk? any comments on 120hz vs 144hz?

      • +2

I haven't noticed any burn in but i only use it a couple of hours a day - sometimes on the weekend I'll leave it on all day and haven't had a problem

There's OLED maintenance it does every now and then

Refresh rate is good and image quality is fantastic with a huge dynamic colour range and clear text

        • +2

Forgot to add - when i did research on this before pulling the trigger people were complaining about the fact that it returns to flat when you turn it off, but to me this is very minor (almost like they had to pick on something). When you power on it returns to your curve set before power down

When I picked this up from JB Hifi warehouse here in Perth it had dust all over it so not sure how much stock is left but I wouldn't say it's been a big seller - not surprising considering it's way overkill for your average user

  • Any developer using this for coding?

Will it be good for developer ? Reading codes and texts ? super convinient to split into 4 screen on same display.

  • don't forget to add the enormous expense of a gpu that can handle it.

    • +1

I'm running mine off a 5080 - if you’re buying a $1500-2000 "monitor" you're probably already running something fairly decent?

Is this good for a computer monitor ???

  • +3

I use the LG Oled C4 42 inch model for work, play games and media consumption. I moved from a Xiaomi 34 inch ultrawide. Even though my desk is 75 cm deep, I find the flat face of the LG Oled requiring some neck movement for looking into corners of the screen. For instance ussing the cross to close a window or using the taskbar calendar or using the file menu in documents. The neck movement is slightly uncomfortable and I find that I end up not maximizing windows and using the middle of the screen. I considered this model as an upgrade from the C4 albeit it comes at a steep cost. If you've got the money and a reasonably deep desk of 75 to 80 cm this is a great monitor.

One con that stands out though is the refresh rate of 120 hz which is less than the C4s 144 hz.
