[WA] 50% off Gas Usage with Origin Go Variable Plan @ Origin Energy

130

Just been notified that Alinta is jacking their daily Account Service fees by nearly 300%. Hard to find a decent discount these days but seems Origin is the only one offering 50% off usage. Also there is NO mention of any account services fees.

Also get some perks such as JB Hi-Fi and GG Commerial access.

Time to look at this sheet again since AGL has similar price rise

    • it says 8/24, so isn't exactly current anymore?

  • Current daily supply charge for origin appears to be 24.97 cents per day. That is still substantially more than the revised AGL daily charge of 15 cents per day.

    • agl is also increasing their account/daily charge fees.

    • From July 1 2025 supply charge is 26.51 inc GST for AGL.

  • Natural gas prices and Origin Go Zero carbon offset prices are increasing on 1 July 2025. Our fees are increasing on 1 August. We'll send you the new prices before they change.

  • Kleenheat is also increasing their account fees.

The Account Fee will increase from 16.33 cents per day (incl GST) to 22.07 cents per day (incl GST)

  • If you don't use much gas, then the "Everyday Rewards Variable" plan might be better off overall due to the flat $25 worth of points in exchange for a lower discount on usage.

  • Alinta increasing supply charge to 26.52/day (incl GST) come 1st July

  • thanks, I recently switch to gas hot water, so my gas bill has gone up a bit. These rates are better than my current kleenheat 35% off.

  • If you have EDR (EveryDay Rewards) app, you may find upsized offer currently running which gives you 15,000 EDR pts for gas (up to 60,000 with Electricity and Internet as well)
I have used the sheets and updated the ORIGIN vs AGL part of it, if that helps.

I'm currently with AGL and has just jumped ship, too good. Don't think it can be stacked with Origin's referral offer.

    • Also possibly $70 cash back from CR for new gas sign ups - not sure if it stacks with the EDR points though

    • Offer only available to eligible Everyday Rewards members who received the offer directly from Everyday Rewards.

checked my everyday rewards app, don't have the offer :(

    • It won't make a huge difference, but it isn't an additional 50% off usage rates listed on the pricing (8.62 cents/7.78 cents), the website says:
'Currently, the usage rates for this plan are 50% less than the usage rates for our Origin Basic plan. Note that rates for both plans are variable and may change from time to time.'
So the rates are already showing 50% less than the Origin Basic (17.24cents/15.56 cents), and don't need to be further halved like you have calculated in the sheet.

      • Sure the rates itself aren’t huge diff, but add NO admin fee it does make a significant difference in my books. Add on top of that the EDR bonus points

        • The plan is good, I am with Origin. I was referring to the calculator results not being that much different once this is changed

          • @motherdough: Sry I’m not following, the sheets already says 8.62 vs 11.61, after respective discounts. I wasn’t implying it needs to be further halved. Those values are final, GST-inclusive figures

            • @noelhoi: The 'discount' for Origin should be 0%, not 50%, due to the figures already being halved from the Origin Basic plan on the website, either that, or put the full pricing and add the 50% discount. It is hard to tell as it is read only, did you keep the formula to calculate totals or manually input? On my own sheet, for same number of units, I have a cost/day of 132.61 cents for the origin go variable pricing

              • @motherdough: It’s not my sheet, i just stole it from this comment at the top of this thread.
I only changed the relevant one to me ie. AGL vs Origin, I know Kleenheat or Alinta wouldn’t come close to competing so didn’t bother.

                • @noelhoi: I know, I mean the formulas don't look right for Origin/AGL, I can't see any formulas at all on your version?
I don't know how else to explain to you what I mean
                  Here is mine

@motherdough: Ah I see what you mean, I didn't touch the "Cost (cents) per day" row, and apparently there is some kinda formula there, but It's so complex I have nfi what/why it's like that. I just didn't bother with that row, and instead compare it using all the given figures.
I stole your sheet's link above and updated in my other post's OP, if you don't mind :P

@noelhoi: No worries, just want to help people get the best deal for them. Unsure how to share mine anonymously but let it be edited for others.. FYI for me, if I change units to what I use (8 units/day) then sometimes different options work out cheaper for me

                      • @motherdough: I think if you click Share > General access > change drop down from Viewer to Editor, you can let ppl edit it. But it'll mean your master copy being edited… So really if ppl wanna play around with it they should Make a Copy of the sheet first and then edit it themselves, or if Make a Copy is not available then File > Download it first then edit it to their own circumstances

                        • @noelhoi: Yes, but AFAIK it would also mean my Google account details being visible publicly I believe, with the 'publish to web' option being the only way to be anonymous aside from creating a throwaway Gmail account

  • Gotta pay for all the gas they just agreed to give away for nothing for the next 50 years somehow

  • Can anyone (WA preferred) confirm you have access to GG commercial? Worth considering the jump if this is true.

yes you do, I'm in WA and it has appeared immediately, even before connection is complete, in the Rewards section.

  • Origin's new prices from 1 July.
    1st 12 units: 8.8220 cents per unit
    remainder: 7.9640 cents per unit
    daily supply: 25.5640 cents per
    day

can we please update the spreadsheet against AGL's new prices?

  • Got a call from Kleenheat to stay but as soon as I mentioned Origin he didn't bother with any hard sell and wished me well.

  • Origin WA Residential gas pricing as of 1 Jul 2025:
    https://www.originenergy.com.au/content/dam/pricing/2025/WA/…

    Note: No account fees.

10 day cooling off period is quite nice. Could switch to another offer easily enough once the $50 credit is used up.
