    • Is it possible to price match at JB? Thanks

      • As far as I know, JB have never sold this headphone.

  • Wow, great price

  • It really is German engineered!

    • But made in Ireland!

    • Because they scream in your ears?

      • +2

nein out of 10 sound quality

The real grab in this sale was HD820 for $1500 using the EOFY code
It was 4 days valid only. I think it’s ended .
Code was (in case it’s still valid)
    EOFY25-6NQ4

    • +6

Hd820 is a much more controversial headphone and isn’t open backed, I’d take 800’s over 820’s anyday

    • +2

Oh, thanks for the old expired deal. Maybe some bitcoin at $1 next?

    • HD820 is closed back while the HD800S is one of the best open back headphones in its price range.

    • I used the code and it is showing as available for purchase for $1,139.40 with free shipping. So I guess that is a thank you for the code then :)

  • Cha ching

  • You’re kidding… 😳

  • (profanity), I just bought some Aryas.

    • +3

Aryas are definitely better per dollar in all honesty given how cheap they are now.

Even at the same price they still compete

    • +1

You made the right choice for an all rounder imo

  • +5

    Good lord.

    • This. And just when I was thinking $300-400 headphones are expensive I'm looking at one now with approx $2k price tag…

  • +1

Dang. I'll stick to my squeaky Edition XS headband but if I had excess budget I'd be curious to compare them in person

    • Go to AddictedtoAudio shop. They have them for you try even with any portable dacamp you want

      • Thanks, quite a bit out of my usual way but if I'll keep that in mind if I ever end up in that area :D

    • At least your Hifiman work, mine died after 18 months and no warranty. Hifiman sucks balls. And all the Youtuber rave reviews are bull. I preferred my 15 year old Sennheiser $150 HD598 sound.

  • I remember when I bought this for $1,400.00 and it was $1,500.00 normally…

  • +4

People that pay this money for headphones, what and how often do you use these? Truly intrigued.

    • +4

It basically replaces a $20,000 stereo HiFi setup. So the sound quality from headphones like these with a suitable $1000 headphone Dac Amp comes close to having mega expensive speakers without the cost or need for space or need for tolerant neighbours.

      • +1

I definitely wouldn't say they come close to having a mega expensive speakers. The physical differences simply can't be matched by headphones if you're talking about a well treated room + an extremely high end system.

        • Not many SOs will put up with a well treated room unless you have a totally secluded, dedicated listening space that looks like Nerdsville.

          • @rumblytangara: Of course, which is why we're saying super high end/mega expensive.

            • @Tbargain12: I wouldn't have said that 20K is super high end / mega expensive. The only guy I knew with a high end setup had speakers alone worth that much.

He also had a "well treated room" and then he had kids and all the room treatments disappeared.

              • @rumblytangara: Sorry I completely ignored the $20,000 when I saw "mega expensive", I agree that super high end HiFi setup would be way more. I mean even Sennheiser HE1 cost more than that, that's probably what people consider close to a "mega expensive" HiFi speaker setup in headphones format.

        • It comes close enough without the need for space, treated room, etc. Close enough is good enough for a fraction of the price and other expenses.

          • @Dollar Dreamer: Yeah it's relative I suppose, we can then say another headphone at $1000 is 90% of the HD800s, then another $500 headphone is 90% of the $1000 headphone.

            • @Tbargain12: I get way more use out of these than my buddy and his $40k B&W setup that he can’t use with young kids in the house.

            • @Tbargain12: I don't think there's a 'percentage of an 800S'.

They are extremely distinctive for headphones (and not all good distinctive- I sold mine.)

            • @Tbargain12: Actually you can't say that as every headphone has it's own sound signature. The bullshit that online reviews and forums yelp out on headphone reviews is just too funny.

      • +1

Ok this is all new for me so apologies for the noob questions.
So a headphone Dac amp? What is that connected to to listen to media etc? I'm sure you're not just streaming Spotify etc?

        • +1

you might connect these to a amp which is connected to a turntable, for example. or you might be connecting them to a computer with lossless files, etc

      • +1

$1000 for a DAC and AMP is a little on the silly side these days. The Sabaj A10h is like $200 then any SMSL DAC will do fine. Get your artificial bass boost from PEACE + Equalizer APO courtesy of Oratory1990 on Reddit if you like. Tubes are pretty but silly. I picked up a second hand benchmark dac1 for like $500 over ten years ago and everything has gotten better regarding price and performance since, and mostly on paper.

Anyway, I use mine a few times a week but always prefer to use my Dynaudio monitors if the environment permits.

        • +1

But but but brooooo, I was told $1000 Dac Amp is better because moon lambo tech and blockchain electricity which is cleaner as it's decentralised electricity and has a use case so music sounds extra clear. People that drop $2000 on headphones will drop $1000 on a Dac Amp because of the nonsense they read in online reviews unfortunately. Never ever go in the headphone Reddit channel, an endless rabbit hole of drivel.

    • Anyone listening at home on a regular basis could use these, and they'd sound more detailed than a speaker setup costing ten grand.

For a while I used to use them most nights of the week when the kids were in bed.

    • I paid $1,400 for a pair and I use it about 5-10 hours a day depending on which day it is.

paired with a $3,000 set of tube amps

    • +1

People daily these kind of set up, if you work with your PC all the time and you play games/listen to music/editing etc for example streamers, they just main these as their daily headset.

    • +1

Been used daily for around 8 years now.

  • +4

Was expecting "Thanks OP brought 2" comments by now.

  • Do these have Bluetooth?

    • no they don't they aren't wireless. same with the other wooden expensive headphone with mic posted before you can see wires in the photo.

and wait for it. instead of just connecting to your phone, experts on hifi forums will tell you you need a "AMP" together with these headphones just to listen to them. they will recommend $1k+ amps and then give you the silent treatment when you ask if a $100 one is good enough.

    • Can probably make them Bluetooth compatible with a Qudelix 5k Bluetooth DAC AMP

    • +4

      Sacrilege

$1900 for a headphones is a deal? Really? This is nothing but pure looting and seems there are people sitting ready to be looted akin to the isheeps.

    • +2

People spend $$$ on watches, shoes, cameras… this is no different.

You can buy a $ camera and it'll work, but of course you're gonna get a better experience with a $$$ camera.

There's always the point of diminishing returns, but these cans are still highly regarded.

    • People have expensive hobbies. (profanity) them right? How dare they save up their money to enjoy things in life…../s

P.S. Would you like to see my $15K worth of photography gear I do as a hobby?

      • -1

Well if people are keen on being ripped off why not go for it. And on a side note do you even know the profit percentage on these headphones for Sennheiser? maybe if you knew you wouldn't be wasting your hard earned money to make them richer.

        • Do you know the profit percentage on a pair of name brand sneakers? If you did you would be walking around barefoot. /s

          • @rumblytangara: I know very well and hence I do not get name brand sneakers mate.

  • 5090 or this? Hmm

  • $1899 was the normal price before covid.
