Decline in Charles Tyrwhitt Quality

I have been buying Charles Tyrwhitt work shirts exclusively since 2014. I have not ordered shirts for at least 6 to 12 months, but I ordered about 10 shirts that just arrived. I have only tried two of the ten, but the quality seems to have gone downhill significantly. These ones are not soft at all, very itchy and scratchy, and feel like polyester.

Has anyone else had an issue? I could have just gotten unlucky with these shirts.

That’s been the general consensus on here for many years. It’s not just them though , everyone’s quality gone down. As colour, Rodd and Gunn, mr simple goods, superdry etc

  • I agree, but still probably the best value for money option when it comes to non-iron shirts with a variety of designs.

For what it's worth, their non-iron chinos are superb - best I've owned.

    • Agreed, amazing chinos.
Might be worth stocking up while the going is good.

  • What are the currently the best out of the below?
    - Charles Tyrwhitt
    - T.M.Lewin
    - Hawes and Curtis

I've had good and bad shirts from all of the above, mostly good.

My last batch of Hawes and Curtis was very good (a couple of years ago, maybe more lol)

    • Hawes and Curtis by far the best, though their designs aren't great.

T.M.Lewin are run of the mill bulk buys for standard office use.

Charles Tyrwhitt were always considered the least of the trio.

      • I checked again, after a few years of use, my CT have held up the best.

H&C don’t look so good anymore.

I have about 15 shirts that I rotate.

May give CT another go but will check their refund policy first . May need it after the comments here

  • It wasn't bad enough that we no longer get any "3 for 99" deals, they have to go and make the quality worse too.

  • Yes! I was thinking this too!
I've spent over $2000 at CT as I order a few shirts for coworkers or housemates each time.

This recent order stitching was coming undone on one of the sleeves and on another shirt the buttons slightly didn't align so when I did them up there was a bulge in the fabric..

  • That sucks to hear, the last batch I purchased was just over a year ago and they've been the quality I expected. Maybe I got in right before they reduced the quality.

I guess with global economic pressures they are having problems, increasing the prices further mustn't have been viable so they went down the cost savings route instead. Personally I'd rather just pay more for quality of that's what it costs.

What are good alternatives if willing to pay more?
