I wonder if I should buy during EOFY so that the next year that's due I may be able to get it at a discount. Do you guys have trouble with buying your prepaid outside of EOFY period and black Friday?

Just make sure you check the fine print. Sometimes cheap plans and/or cashback require you activate by a certain date.
Woudn't buy anything too far in advance, unless it's a crazy good deal. The chance of the sim expiring or a better deal coming along is too great
(Like woolworths clearing out $30 sims for $1, or Telstra selling $80 belong sims for $10 worth of points)

Buy before EOFY and it could then be tax-deductible.
