Remarkable 2 or Kindle Scribe?

Could anyone please recommend which is a better option between the reMarkable 2 and the Kindle Scribe? Are there any current deals available for either of them?
Also open to suggestions if there’s another device that’s better than these two.

  • Boox is the other brand who the reviewers keep mentioning.

Most have turned against the Kindle after Amazons drm play, plus changing book content even if you had purchased them

      who the reviewers keep mentioning.

In a good way or bad way?

reviewers can review both good and/or bad experiences, much like the reviews of this youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-sOdMqbX-PY

I tested a few of these options before choosing boox, if you are just note-taking then either reMarkable2 or Kindle Scribe are adequate. I didn't find RM2 that great at organising notes, and KS didn't feel comfortable and was a bit lagging. Boox while a bit more expensive, in my case is a more versatile device and feels more natural to scribe on.

I've been down this rabbit hole and it really depends on what you want the device to do.

"Dedicated" e-…writers(?) are quite limited in their functionality but people enjoy that because it keeps them focused (reMarkable, SuperNote, Kobo Sage / Elipsa). The e-ink tablets on the other hand (Boox, TCL (yuck)) are basically fully fledged Android tablets that allow you to do anything you could with a tablet. I wanted something to read e-books and to jot down notes - I haven't found anything that fits the bill yet. And then if you want colour…

Here's my summary after researching for the last week or so:

    • Kindle - axed because of Amazon and DRM, doesn't seem to be a serious contender.
    • Kobo - outdated. Sage and Elipsa haven't been updated in over 2 years. Expensive for what they are and lack functionality (afaik can only writes notes on epubs you purchase from Kobo?), colour e-ink outdated tech.
    • reMarkable - writes nice, build is nice (you can try them out in JB Hi-Fi - very different feel between the 2 and Paper Pro), functionality gimped behind a monthly subscription. Such a shame, used to be pretty open.
    • Boox - basically e-ink tablets, run Android, pretty good, expensive-ish, heard issues about quality control and don't seem to honour the warranty, their writing app seems to be the best default writing app.
    • TCL - not a serious contender for e-ink, just an Android tablet with a fancy paper writing screen protector (NXT Paper or something?).
    • SuperNote - latest contender, good build quality, good writing, good form factor, limited functionality even though it runs Android, no front/backlight (this is the dealbreaker for me - I need a frontlight to read ebooks in the dark).

Hope this helps. I still haven't decided on one yet…

This is a very objective comparison. The poster didn't mention what they will be using it for. I use a remarkable and am happy with it. An e-ink device is quite a specialised device and doesn't suit many people. Many/most people who don't understand them would be better with an iPad/tablet. I use my remarkable & iPad for completely different things - the remarkable is used for making notes at meetings & conferences. My iPad is using for everyday things. The remarkable does a much better job for making handwritten notes than the iPad, but that is about all it does.
