this is super useful. Thank you!
Great tip! Thanks
I'm pretty sure they advertise the insert tray as dishwasher-safe. If you put it in the dishwasher and the non-stick deteriorates, that's a warranty claim.
Damn right, The main selling point for me was that the basket is dishwasher safe.
They might say that's wear and tear
It's complete rubbish. I'll have to claim on warranty.
'dishwasher safe' does not mean 'wont eventually get munted by the dishwasher'. anything steel or iron that isnt stainless will get heavily corroded due to the nature of dishwasher detergent. i would agree regarding manufacturer claims and holding them to account though.
Are you just looking for an argument or something? They serve a different purpose, the heating method is different and it's quicker
How is the heating method different? From what I know, air fryers are just small fan-forced ovens, usually much cheaper but also much smaller and less "industrial strength." Of course, cheaper and quicker to heat up a space fraction of the size of an oven. We have one but I am not convinced.
I thought this too, until I actually used an air fryer and now I'm a total convert.
It heats up faster and uses less energy, the 'crisp' for chips/pizza/pies is better as it vents the moist air.
It hasn't replaced my oven completely, but it has for certain food/recipes.
Ovens are a waste of money, in many instances an AF will do the same or better job in much less time and use significantly less power.
Ovens serve a different purpose. You can't cook a cake in an air fryer.
Exactly my point, that Ovens already do absolutely everything.
Yeah you can. They come with recipe books showing you how
@9hundred: Not every air fryer is the same size. This 5.7L model could make a fairly decent size cake IMO, you could get at least 8 decent sized slices out of it.
… But they go upto like 10L man. You can absolutely get an air fryer that'll make a full sized cake. What's your definition of 'full sized' anyway? There's no standard.
Balderdash
Not only can you cook a cake, you can bake an excellent loaf of sourdough bread.
I take an air fryer in the caravan (no oven) for months at a time and I can do just about anything that I can do in an oven.
Obviously, quantities are smaller, and you can't do low temperature things like proof your bread. But just about anything else works.
Be prepared to have the most negative votes this month lol
I have one of these. So much better than the $79 K-mart one I had before. The preheat function is great and cooks very well. It's also easy to clean. Mine is now 3 years old with no issues.
You can also buy 9.0" liners that fit these perfectly and help keep the air fryer clean.
Thanks for the clues. I bought some liners
Even better, Coles have half price on the liner (20cm - $6 for 50). I haven’t tried them yet
Thanks for this tip! I’ll be picking up a pack to try.
The paper liners from Coles are Wiltshire branded. They are crap. The paper is so thin and I thought it couldn’t get any thinner than the ones I previously got from Amazon. You need to make sure that whatever you are cooking is able to weigh down the liner in all corners otherwise the paper will fly up into the heating element and burn/catch fire.
100 pieces of paper for $20?! That's 20c each. I guess a large chunk of that is eaten away by Amazon's fees. You can get the reusable silicone ones, they're pretty good.
always check temu for this kinda stuff its way cheaper.
yeah that's where I got my silicone liners
@bonezAU: Thanks for sharing.
However, don't those sort of things defeat the purpose of air fryer, at least the prototypical purpose, i.e. having the hots air circulate closely around the item being cooked?
If these are silicon coated perhaps they can be reused a few times? If cooking dry things like pies.
They can be reused for a long time. I've had mine for 18 months, they get used a lot and are not showing any signs of wear.
Any annoying beeps? Can you turn them off if so?
Yes you can
To mute the beeping sounds on your Instant Pot Vortex Plus 5.7L Air Fryer, follow these steps:
airfryerbeast.comEnsure the air fryer is in Standby mode. This means the unit is plugged in but not actively cooking.
Press and hold the Time and Temp buttons simultaneously for 5 seconds. The display should show “Sound Off,” indicating that the operational beeps have been muted.
To re-enable the sounds, repeat the same process. The display will show “Sound On.”
I wish I could just reduce the volume, even if it's just by taping off a speaker or something. I like the beeps, but my god they're loud.
@camerongb: Oh no! Hahahah
Maybe keep a bag of healthy dog food (or even just dry dog food) near the air fryer so whenever it happens, you don't get taxed on your crisp goodness?
Same price at Myer where you have much easier gift card discount access of up to 10-15%
myer is the worst. good luck with warranty in that circus of a place.
Thanks, grabbed one. I have one of the Kmart ones, and it's done OK, but this will be a good upgrade
I've had this one for about 6 months.. yes it cooks well but there's a lot of things I really dislike about it.
I hate the forced preheat mode that can't be skipped. For example you want to heat something for 5 minutes at 200c , the oven first reaches 200 C and then starts counting down 5 minutes. Who the hell preheats an air fryer?
I really dislike the way the screen reads "OFF" when the machine is not in use and drawer closed…. Wtf? Yes, this is always on!
The beeps are loud and unpleasant.
Still at 99 or better still 104 for the black model it's not a bad deal.
I think my next machine will be a ninja. Yes more expensive but a much more refined product..
The preheat is simply for making sure that something is actually cooked all the way through. Usually a over is preheated before food is put in.
Also my screen only displays off for a bit and then goes blank, does yours not?
No,.it's on all 24/7 .
Thanks for letting me know, maybe mine is faulty.
I just had to go double check that I wasn't talking crap, definitely off. I press a button and it comes out of standby.
Haha, I've got a Philips one as well this one and I hate that it starts the timer before it comes to temp and I can't hear the beeps. The beeps are actually restrained compared to the instant pot pressure cooker, a full eight or so beeps when it finishes. But yes, one of my pet tech peeves is devices announcing eternally that they're off. There's no reason for it to display OFF for more than a couple of minutes.
Why is the extra $5 worth it to avoid the stainless steel model?
I wish you could choose to remove the preheating mode, but for certain things it kinda makes sense. For airfrying chips for example, you want to be blasting them with fully hot air from the very get go in order to get the best result.
Is the 'OFF' notification really that big a deal? I agree that it's not preferable, but I don't see how it's objectively that bad.
The black is easier to keep looking clean.
I haven't noted any difference in reheating outcomes when placing food in after the oven has preheated versus placing the food in at the beginning. Keep in mind there's very little thermal mass in the basket and as such much of the "preheat" is lost the moment you open the drawer anyway.
I think it's more about the thermal mass of the heating element more than anything. It's only a rather short amount of time for the preheat anyway.
For reheating, okay sure - I can understand that it might not make a noticeable difference, they probably should've removed the preheat for that setting.
Question - With your unit, does it actually stop heating once the preheat stage is over? Do you actually need to remove the basket and reinsert it? Or can you just ignore the beeping and it'll keep heating?
First one we purchased a few years ago. If it died we would buy another. We use it every day for something.
I just replaced mine after 3+ yrs, was too grimy inside potentially becoming a hazard.
Lots of cheap deals for this lately, makes me wonder if there's a new model on the way
The Clearcook is newer isn't it?
I can find review videos on that model dated back 3 years ago.
Not able to deliver to my address for some reason
I think just about every single ozbargainer has one already, unless they collect them. Every time I open ozbargain, there is an airfryer "deal".
Perhaps you could start contributing some deals yourself if you don't like what others are posting?
I don't wanna just post any old "deal", unless it's a Bargain! Most posts are for the usual suspects, like headphones, airfryers, monitors, and chargers.
Air fryers are popular … Deals on air fryers are popular … Hmm. I'm really struggling to logic that one out!
If you are struggling, then just think about how many air fryers people really need. Surely people have bought all the air fryers they need by now.
Just came to say, this is an awesome airfyer! Have been using it for around 2 years with no issues.
I must have gotten a dud. Has a weird smell (possibly toxic fumes) to it even after one year of ownership, and the inner tray lost a bit of coating early on.
get it replaced if you can. get chatGPT to write your polite request letter - it's surprisingly persuasive and simple. I had this issue with my first unit and the replacement did not have the issue. good luck!
Did you read the manual? Put it on maximum temperature and let it rip with nothing inside for an hour (clean it out first). Do it a second time if truly necessary, but just the once should solve it.
ATL
Great air fryer! Got one 2 years ago, use it pretty much every day. Replaced the inner tray thing a year ago with one from Ali express, was perfect.
Myer has a white version with clear windows so you can see inside [here] (https://www.myer.com.au/p/instant-vortex-plus-air-fryer-57l-…).
Have used it for a few days and its great. Really nice to be able to see the food cooking. But probably most people don't like white.
i reckon the Amazon version (no see through window) is clearing out old stocks for space to house the see through version which Myer is selling.
I wonder why their white version is half the cost of the black/stainless one … That's a huge discount to offer on a new model, even if the colour isn't as popular …
This is worth a deal post on its own
I was getting around to it lol! And wasn't sure how long the price would hang around for.
Thanks just bought one with gift card.
Thanks I order that model and arrived today. It is really nice with the window.
Also had this for over 2 years and cops a pounding every day from a family with 4 boys. Wouldn't hesitate to buy again
What’s the oz bargain recommendation of air fryer for a time poor family of 4, 2 young kids and grown ups that hate to wash up?
order ubereats instead, no washing up!
This was cheaper when I previously looked
https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B09174HWH1
But same brand, different (larger) model.
I personally am holding out for something with an inbuilt meat thermometer and higher top temperature to be on sale
Looked at many models, and returned my philips xxl bcz it smoked too much. Finally got this last month for same price. This is much better and easy to clean too. Using daily. Overall really good and much better than kmart and other randoms out there.
Won’t ship to regional like usual.
Makes me wonder how useful prime is now that so many things cannot be shipped
Yeah I have 4 years stacked from claiming vouchers and it’s useless to me barely anything will ship to regional areas and even prime video has ads now on basic tier.
works well love it…. but the handle broke of one week after my son droped the tub.
I have been using it for 2 years now with a broken handle , i was hoping it would break quicker so i can buy a newer airfryer but it still runs well.
Got one of these a few years back, still going strong. Have got my parents one last black friday. Just here to upvote! BTW if the tray inside starts to flake or deteriorate from washing etc they sell replacements for around $20
Last night when I was researching which Air fryer to buy and found out although Intant Pot seems to be a very popular brand, its parent company filed for bankruptcy two years ago. Wouldn't that affect their new product launch and warranty? I am genuinely curious why so many consumers still like this brand so much. And if their products were so good why would such a brand go bankrupt? Is this model really better than other air fryers in the market?
Instant Pot's warranty is 12 months compared to Philips and Ninja which have 2 years warranty. Would this be a concern?
I have an Instant Pot multi (pressure) cooker and I love it. Very reliable, easy to clean, easy to use, never missed a beat.
It helps (alot) that they seemed to be the first(ish) to market with the whole electronic pressure cooker thing. This built alot of loyalty and fans of which has carried them.
These days with lots more competition (in the electronic pressure cooker) market, their case isn't as strong.
As for air fryers, I have no idea if these are as good as the pressure cookers. I am holding out for something with a higher max temperature and an inbuilt meat thermometer personally
Yes fair enough. I also read some reviews where people said their Instant Pot Vortex Plus stopped working within 2 years so if Instant Pot only offers 1 year warranty that's a bit concerning.
It's also 1/3rd of the price of the lastest Ninja (the one I would ideally like being bigger, higher max temp and having an inbuilt meat thermometer).
So really just depends on what you want to do with it
@qaz182: Yes. I am a first time Air Fryer user. I ended up grabbing a white colour clearcook version (the one with a window) which is the same price. The price is pretty good for an Air Fryer this size with a window so I can't complain.
What's the material made of? Any PFAS in the non-stick coating? Always get suspicious of these with the ability for plastic to melt.
Feel like it's worth spending an extra $10 for a glass air fryer like: https://www.amazon.com.au/Glass-Digital-Fryer-1200W-Cleaning…
Can you use this to dehydrate foraged mushrooms? In-laws are coming over for dinner on Saturday night.
I used the clearview one it has a dehydrate function but I've never tried it. You need to make sure they are editable though.
It shows $107.21 on my end. Anyone else seeing the same?
Thanks Op, just bought it. Was thinking of getting it from Costco the other day.

Can confirm. Great air fryer. Had to get the first unit replaced as it stank of melted plastic whenever it was switched on. No such issues with the second unit.
Pro tip - never ever scrub the slotted plate that goes in the bottom of the basket - just soak it in water while you eat, and all the krud will just wipe off easily. Scrubbing it (or putting in the dishwasher) will destroy the non-stick surface, then food will start sticking to the underlying stamped steel, and that will start rusting and corroding. You can also use those air fryer insert paper trays, but it causes issues with some foods due to effect on air circulation.
