The acquisition still needs to go through regulatory approval before the deal is finalised.

Renowned headphone brand Beyerdynamic whose products are hand made in Germany has been sold for $216M to Chinese Company Cosonic International.
At this stage we don’t know what will happen to the local distribution rights.
Currently Synchronised Technology are the appointed distributor, with global Managing Director Richard Cambell confirming that manufacturing will continue to be in Germany for the 100-year-old headphone brand which has been family-owned ever since it was founded by Eugen Beyer in Berlin, 1924.

Will still be a German brand and built by hard working CCP!

The company wanted to grow, so they sold out? Give me a break.
The family owners wanted $200m and didn’t give a toss about the business.
    Very short sighted.

$200 can buy a lot of spectacles

I guess. It even buys a 100yro family business. But I suggest to you the business is worth less today than it was last month. And even if the original family bought it back, it would still be worth less due to reduced trust from staff and customers.
A part of the value was the integrity of a 100y family business.
I also reckon the sellers probably don't need the money, and will come to regret the move.

Maybe the current generation didn't want to take over the family business.

I understand it's idealistic that a business is owned by a family for generations.

After 100 years there's bound to be many fingers in the pie but you can really only have 1 CEO and what if their cousins and 2nd cousins don't agree with the way the golden child CEO is running it?

If you're a shareholder of a private company but not in the day to day running of it, you may just want to take your millions and live off that/start your own business.

You can see why family businesses split or get sold.

Rupert Murdoch only speaks to 1 of his adult kids. He is in legal battles with the other 3. Gina Rinehart's also in legal battles with half her kids.

Anyone who's into Audio would know that only the Chinese market matters for top end equipment. Their domestic brands are also making interesting stuff with the latest hardware and constantly updating, although still not quite as good as the established brands but much cheaper at least.

Our markets are saturated with rubbish Bluetooth and subscription downloads. Apple Airpods are 60% of the headphone market and will continue to dish out this trend.

This is why you see so many top end Western brands sold off recently like KEF. They can't find a market in their domestic channels and don't have enough resources to move in on the type of rubbish the contemporary customer wants.

    • I understand this from a capitalist 'feed the shareholders' view, but surely a family owned business can decide to continue to produce high quality, even if the growth isn't as high?

  • Locals begged them to hang tough, but it fell on deaf ears.

A pity Aussies weren't as concerned by the daily sell out and gifting away of our sovereignty to foreign raiders. And the constant appointment of non Australians to senior roles,CEO etc.Keep your eye on the Santos takeover . If it ends with smiling politicians using the term win win, there will be a festering rodent in the background somewhere.
