Electricity Switch - Currently with Globird Energy on Ausgrid Network

Hi All,

Currently with Globird Energy. They sent a letter for price increases. Daily charge from 0.96 to 1.28, peak usage from 0.34 to 0.56 and off peak usage from 0.21 to 0.29.

I'm thinking of switching to a better rate, but most companies now don't increase till end of july or August I think when I check their website. What do you guys recommend for good rates and discounts?

Thanks in Advance.

Lumo has frozen it's prices until Sep 2026.

For me, it was cheaper than Globird when I checked about 1-2 months ago.

A VIC energy provider for a NSW resident. Super helpful!

      • Where in the title does it mention NSW?

          Ausgrid 🤦🏻‍♂️

    Use Energymadeeasy.gov.au to compare prices

    • This is the way to go. There's really no one size fits all for provider or plan.

      • I did and then when I call the energy provider of the new quote they say they don't do those prices on energymadeeasy. So the prices in energymadeeasy are not up to date unfortunately. They also told me the current prices are before price increases to which they do not know how much it is increased by. They said maybe I should hold on and see what the price increases are before changing.

I am also in ausgrid. https://www.cashrewards.com.au/store/origin-energy has $150 cashback and one of the plans has a $100 bill credit.

You have to stay with them for 90 days. Govt will give us $75 in July. Unless you are a really high user, $325 should last at least 2 months, even allowing for prices to rise by 20%. On day 91 check what is on offer and switch again.

For me the switch happened on the next midnight, and my cashback tracked within an hour. Says it will take 180 days to pay, but last year I got paid after 4 months on a similar deal. Haven't received notification of price increase from origin yet

Something to be mindful of in the fine print for those that churn often:

Cashback is ineligible on the following: Returning Origin energy customers for the same premises

Yes, well spotted. Last year was at a different premises so should be ok for me

    • I was with Origin before years ago, so I would not be a new customer then unfortunately.

      • If the plan with $100 credit is available you could still go with them for a month or so. You can get Origin bill credits once every 12 months

Powershop also has $200 credit but their current rates are a lot higher already, so who knows how much they will raise by

  • We're switching from Globird to Lumo. Globird was acceptable while we were a gas+elec customer - but Lumo quote (& many others) is a lot lower now that we are elec-only.

Despite my now misleading 'handle', I'm in Melbourne (& the weather is EXTRA shite today).
