  They also have the C5 for $2870 which isn't bad. Still not low enough for me to bite but might be a sign of other retailers discounting soon.

  Can someone explain to me the differences between a $500-1000 model, and something four or five times the cost?

  I'm sure it's the panel type and features, but I'm sure I've seen fast-refresh, OLED models for ~$1000. These seem like they'd even handle gaming… maybe not? But if so, what do these bring to the table?

  Seems like so much money for a TV these days…

    Go and have a look at them side by side in your favorite electronics store. The difference is pretty astounding between them, even if you don’t want to delve too deep into the information on Rtings. The cheaper OLEDs definitely look good enough for general use, but then you take into account brightness and colour for your specific use case, then the more expensive TVs start to come into their own. I am coming from a Samsung AU8000 so any OLED is a huge upgrade, but in a brighter room, the C’s and G’s make all the difference for a longer term upgrade.
