I really rate the Peak Design stuff. I have all of these products actually, and while not even close to cheap, am super happy. The leash swings off my daily driver every single day and never misses a beat.

Wow, I really sound like a shill/sockpuppet. So here's the only criticism I'll give: I wish the leash (for my smaller cameras) had the grippy stuff on one side like the Slide I use for my large cameras. Being able to "flip for grip" is a great feature to hold the camera on your back or something without it sliding back around to your hip again.

    • Which do you recommend for a friend?

Slide is the most comfortable but cannot be packed as compactly as the others because it folds instead of rolls up. May be overkill for smaller setups.

Leash is the thinnest and rolls up, by far the most compact option but would not recommend using with heavier lenses. I use this generally with RX100 but can be used if I want to pack light with a full frame body and a small lens.

Slide Lite is the middle ground and can roll up.

I also have all 3 of these and prefer the Lite for most use. The original Slide (I have a couple of them) I find is is generally too big and bulky esp for travel - however it's great for a heavier lens - esp one with a foot (e.g. the 70-200 or 180-600). The leash whilst incredibly small and light should be ideal for travel but I find it just a little too thin for a full frame or even crop (mirrorless or DSLR) with a lens (unless it's a pancake or something tiny). The Lite is definitely my goto

    • Fair point. I have bought the leash for my Sony RX100. I surely hope it won't swing around but the RX100 is pretty light already.

      • +4

I would not use a slide or slide lite with the Sony RX100, when they are packed they are as big as the RX100 itself lol. The RX100 is also light enough that you don't benefit at all from the thicker straps and they really just get more in the way.

        • Thx eecan, that's handy to know. 👌🏼

Got PD slide , cuff and leash , can recommend.

Ah yes Peak Design… When they dropped the ball on my friend Mario

similar price on ebay from nofrills if you need it shipped

    • Thanks bought the cuffs delivered for $49.17 - eBay Plus with coupon JUNEOFY15

    • You got a link to that? I can only see the wrist strap at a fairly normal price.

I'm usually not a fan of brand names but this stuff is really good. I'd highly rate them. I've been using this exact leash for a few years with my A7 series cameras and they have been brilliant. I think I'm still on the first set of clips (they are almost 7 years old now - even Peak Design doesn't recommend them to be used that long.) Extremely solid and dependable. Highly reommended.

  • Still not sure what this is for

Camera gear, top quality brand name with good reliability.
But also quite expensive for casuals.

      • Damn… Initially thought this was for the pet. After seeing the price, then thought it was for the wife. Now …..

  • This is the most useless thing in my camera bag, don't buy. Cuff, however, is the best thing lol

    • Might not suit you, but I've more camera gear than is sensible and these are amongst the best straps I've used for decades.

For an alternative, I run multiple PGYTECH Camera Shoulder Strap Airs.

The connectors are smaller and do not scratch the cameras or get in the way. The connectors are also designed to avoid tangling.

I find the quick-release connectors are smooth and offer a quick one-handed attachment and detachment. I also like that the system has a firm, audible click when connected.

I run pretty light and compact. I would probably want a wider strap, which PGYTECH also make, if I was running heavier rigs for extended periods, even though the air is rated up to 90kg.

I also preferred their quick release plates when I was looking because of some of the features.

Not to ruffle any PD owners, I think PD gear and their support is great.

I run with a Capture Clip v3 which is also on sale, Cuff, 15 Pro case (I've added an anchor point to use for my Cuff), Slide for my heavier DSLR and Leash for smaller mirrorless/M4/3. Absolutely solid stuff, and their customer support is great.

I foolishly lost one of the bolts for the capture clip while overseas, and they sent over a new set free of charge.

  • Good for dogs?

    • Don't think strong enough for my Staffy.

  • Looks alot like the Joby Convertible Neck Strap which is currently cheaper at $56.82 https://www.georges.com.au/products/joby-convertible-neck-st…

I've used it for years, the Peak one just looks like a fancier version.

For anyone cheap like me - the wrist strap that comes with Wii remotes works great and you can find them at most op shops (or in a box in the shed somewhere). My camera and 150-500 lens weighs a ton and I've never had any issues.

    • Good point, blldzd, I already have a wrist strap from my original Sony RX100 package which does the job. It's just that I would like a neck strap to free my hands up, especially when I am the "backpack" on a motorbike when travelling. It's just more convenient.

I had leash before (both normal and lite) and I wasn't impressed. it's not wide enough, and looks not that professional IMO

on my cameras I use Lucky Straps (wide, genuine leather) I got for hundred bucks - still looks and feels like new, and rather light, plus super comfy even with old DSLR with hefty optic on - can't say the same for the leash

another one I use is the v1 of the Gobe (Urth now) strap. it's wider and got rubber strips on one side so I can switch between slip and no slip very easily

    but leash didn't sway me

the only thing I like in the system is the scree on clip attachment thingy - it's better than what any other system did IMO, but I just use it with other system clips lol

Handmade in Bendigo, Australia which is pretty cool

Ted's Cameras have the Canon Limited Edition Lucky Strap withe the Kentaro Yoshida wave artwork for $99.95 which seems like a pretty good price for a quality strap.

The R5 Lucky Strap was designed on the Deluxe 45

thank you my friend for pointing that out, that was another reason to give them a go, and disappointed I was not!

+1 support Australian, and being a Melbourne soul through and through, it makes me proud to support someone so very much local, doing an amazing job.

my strap is my fav colours: deep blue on one side, and black on the other.

The early versions (Leash and Slide) included an Arca Swiss plate, it seems they have replaced that with an anchor mount, plate sold separately now.

May not matter if you use Manfrotto and needed the Pro Plate anyway.

  • Saw leash
Thought legrope and finally something for me on here
    Nope

  • While they have gone up. I got mine maybe six years ago Peak Design Slide Lite was $66.
It's nice but it doesn't actually lock (The handle is only for show) so if you put on a heavier lens it will extend by itself from the camera weight

    • Personally I've used the Peak Design Slide for years and never had issues with my full frame camera and a 70-200 2.8/300 2.8.

Used the Slide Lite on and off with a second body and it was definitely fine with a full frame + 24-70 2.8 but haven't used that one for an extended time with the telephoto lenses.
