Highly reccomend this chair. So comfortable.

    • Did you find the lack of reclining function, limiting?

Father to be here - can somone explain to me why this would be required? How is it any different from a regular lounge chair and what features make it a 'nursery chair'?

    • +2

The chair's ability to rock/sway lets you use motion to help baby fall asleep.

Babies spend 9 months in mum falling alseep while rocking and rolling in the belly, so when they come out they're better at falling asleep with movement.

Also they're usually designed with the arms for the chair in a way to make it easy for mum to breastfeed

        just buy a snoo

        • +2

We didn't want one in case it created dependencies.

        • +2

Everyone I know who got a Snoo doesn't recommend it. If you get one, buy it second hand for a fraction of the price.

          • @Timm: Everyone I know who has one does recommend it so I think it is one part personal preference and five parts baby preference.

That said, definitely get secondhand. If you get a decent deal (we got ours for $450) you can basically try it risk free by selling on after you are done with it for around the same price.

okay great thanks - is the inability of this chair to recline a big deal or is that a feature we could live without?

        • you can live without it. i think arm rests help a lot as you'll need to continually support their head during feeding which can get tiring. not all babies will feed the same, some will take longer than others

    • @nibblesh perfect answer

Using the gliding function is a godsend when nursing a child. It is one of those items that many parents and carers regret not purchasing sooner at birth as it helps settle the child.

I have a electric lounge recliner with the gliding function however it is quite large and not able to fit in the nursery or main bedroom. Instead I use a different Il Tutto Quinn which not only fits but has a mattress like backing. Aside from feeds, it is so comfortable it can be used for quick naps and catching up on sleepwhilst the baby is in the cot nearby between feeds (for safety reasons napping with a baby in reclining position is a no).

The Il Tutto we have is not the electric version and my partner does not use the manual recline function at all but an old ottoman as it is easier for her to get out of the chair with.

When choosing these type of chairs I would suggest considering:

      • tall backrests for taller users (Il Tutto Youtube videos show two persons of different heights seated)
      • glider function
      • recline function
      • electric function
      • back support materiel (Quinn uses a mattress like foam similar to a bed, whereas Chelsea and others use a harder foam for back support)
      • width and height of armrests (some parents do not like tight and hard side arms as when the baby grows they will wake easily due to lack of space)
      • delivery charges
      • can it be price beat at Baby Bunting for extra 5% off

Is there a popular recliner and or electric one, you would recommend?

        Priority is comfort, thank you.

BabyBumpsandBeyondAusNZ has feedback from parents: https://www.reddit.com/r/BabyBumpsandBeyondAu/search/?q=il+t…

I have the Il Tutto Chelsea due to the plusher mattress backing whereas those who want a firmer seat may like the Quinn.

Until recently both were quite popular and easy to test in baby stores such as Baby Bunting and Baby Kingdom however in the last few years the range has been expanded including introduction of electric recliners.

The best thing about these is that they fit easily in a small bedroom and I intend to keep it forever (just too comfy).

@BlueGlowOne: Thank you, that helps a lot

@morpheous: Correction on last comment - I have the Quinn, whereas the firmer is the Chelsea.

@BlueGlowOne: Agree, we have two Chelsea chairs, one is now a permanent fixture in the lounge room. They're incredibly comfy and the recliner function meant I could sleep with bub on me and Mrs Yobbo could get some sleep on her own.

@Captain Yobbo: Thank you everyone for their reply, we went to the Brisbane expo yesterday and ended up getting the Frankie after trying them all in person.

Has to be the most comfortable recliner ever.

    • It's not required, in the sense that you can get by without one, but it can make life a bit easier.

Most babies fall asleep better with motion so the rocking helps, and mum's gonna spend a lot of time sitting in it so a comfy chair can be a good investment.

Saying that, we made do with a regular lounge chair and didn't have any problems so YMMV.

Congrats mate, it's a hell of a ride. I'd solidly recommend a rocker / glider, even better if it can recline, really helpful for feeding or settling the little ones. Both of mine are toddlers now and still enjoy doing "row row" on my lap as I sit in our Il Tutto Chelsea chair (have a second in youngest's room). One protip I'd offer is don't be afraid to make noise when the little one is asleep, put music or TV on, cook & clean (including vacuum). They desensitise pretty quickly and it helps with sleep long term. Wish we'd known that for number 1! Number two sleeps through Qld thunderstorms like a champ.
