The magic of baked lighting. Ray tracing is a scam.
It certainly felt like a bit of a scam when I got my 2080 super "with ray tracing!", and it completely shit the bed when you actually enabled it. It's improved now with newer cards, scaling, frame gen etc.
It must be me as I am NOT able to find any games at all. Yet when I look at the BF2 player count there's 20k+ players online. It's such a fun game and I'm so glad to see it back so popular, if only I was able to play it! (And yes I am in Online Mode)
I played a couple weeks ago and immediately got put into a full lobby supremacy match. Had a blast!
Check your Epic Games Store library before you rush to buy. It was given out for free back in 2021: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/596662
honestly, i'd pay $5 to not open the epic games store.
"Revenge Spending money is not the Jedi Ozbargainer way"
I totally get it
Also included in Xbox+PC Game Pass
Yep $5 is a small price to pay for not dealing with Tim Sweeney
Fallen Order is only $15 on Steam too. Pretty solid single player game now all the launch bugs are fixed
Survivor is also down to ATL of $19.99 on Steam. If you own Fallen Order, and purchase the series bundle, you get Survivor for $17.99. not sure if they ever fixed the performance though
Do you need any DLC for this?
I have it free from Epic, but can't remember if I uninstalled it because I couldn't find any games at the time, or because almost all modes were blocked out.
The celebration edition includes all DLCs up to Dec 2019. They are all cosmetic. No modes were gatekept behind DLCs.
Thanks. Will need to give it a shot then
Edit: ooh, now I remember. The whole screen was garbled. Actually bothered to google it this time, solution was to turn off DX12 in settings.
Can’t wait to blast some filthy clankers
Played this for hours on console, good game for a multiplayer FPS with Star Wars skins. Are the servers alive or dead-on PC? Hard to know, some say yes others no.
servers are booming on PC - get insta queues on east coast all weeknights and weekends between 8-11pm (my playtime). Full 40 player maps in the big modes too
East coast? US or Aus?
Aus
Bought this last week. Finished single player and have done a decent amount of multi.
Campaign was deeply disappointing. Online not much better. Feels like an arcade shooter we're everyone gets a kill rather than something you can get good at.
Sounds like any random lobby on an FPS.
CS, overwatch, r6, pubg, even fortnite? Seems like a lot of current successful games reward skill?
Apples and Oranges. Those are all games designed to be competitive shooters with high skill ceilings. This game was never meant to be that nor was it ever marketed as such.
Played this the other day. It's still fun. Lots of funny voice lines from the droids, feels really authentic.
awesome game, been playing this regularly he past few weeks since servers got populated again,
Why is the game popuplar again - Andor effect?
yep!
That or trying to get a third one made
Not sure which theory is to correct
Enabled DX12.. got really weird graphical glitches. Back to DX11..
Got into the game twice and got kicked to desktop after having waited 5+ mins for a game.
Uninstalled.
Joined co-op, queued in less than 5 secs.
I played Star Wars Battlefront 1 & 2 on xbox game pass. I don't really understand they seem to be similar but one is not necessarily better than the other? What do you think about them
Never understood why this game fell off so much.. was it because of microtransactions? Both gameplay and graphics are great. Remember playing this on my PS4 around 2021 and took forever to find any matches. Hope the player base stays active.
The monetization was quite bad at launch, something about the way you progressed too. Can't remember the specifics but EA copped a lot of flack for it and had to back peddle and put some other team on the game to fix it.
Yes the egregious microtransactions and progression system at launch really hurt the game. You had to grind something like 40 or more hours just to unlock 1 hero if you didn't want to pay.
They were forced to backpedal this when the official rep ended up getting the most downvoted Reddit comment of all time. Which got so much coverage over the Internet at the time that it even ended up in the Guinness World Records lol
Hilarious to see Guinness "award" that to EA
Do the modern Battlefront 1 or Battlefront 2 have any of the fun single player modes from the original (eg Galatic Conquest)?
The single player modes have nothing on the originals
Still decent enough to play through at least once or twice, has split screen co-op too which is nice
Download the Kyber mod for Battlefront 2 so you can create your own private servers with mods and then download this mod
https://www.nexusmods.com/starwarsbattlefront22017/mods/3658
It adds bot support to all the game modes so you can play multiplayer by yourself and increases the max players for all modes to 64 players (bots if playing by yourself)
still one of the best playing and looking games around. modern games are f'n trash.
Aight played for about an hour or so and I remember why I left:
The gameplay itself and the graphics are still top. Unfortunately EA made some strange choices. It's not terrible just feels like a missed opportunity. For $5 its worth it.
"The whole "card" system is terrible"
You mean like…unlocking attachments and perks in COD? LOL
… Yes?
Such an amazing game. Still great in 2025. Card system is just an angle to play more hours. Totally okay with it as it's a kick arse game
Full servers again. Have been back playing it (badly) for weeks. Uninstalled EA App version and bought Steam equivalent - just becoz!
Doesn't the Steam version still force you to use the EA app anyway? That's how the Epic and Game Pass version works at least
Yes it does but it uses a thin version of the EA app that starts in the background when you launch the game and exits itself when you close the game.
Game updates are downloaded via Steam rather than EA (irrelevant for this game since they ended support already)
Definitely not worth buying it again if you already have it on the EA app or via Gamepass.
Always had this on console, but thought I'd try it on my Mac M4 through Crossover, and it runs really well – even on Ultra settings. Good fun, although I'm so crap with the mouse and keys these days.
There has been a uptake of people playing BF2 online in the past few months.
The game still looks terrific and plays well.
