Samsung Monitor - Dead Pixel

Want to see what options there are, hopefully mostly legal or borderline lol.

Bought a 49" with 1 dead pixel for $500, new it's $2k currently. There's no invoice so, Samsung said they can't repair it within warranty. I can get someone to come out and pay them and the parts and labour. So basically buy a new monitor lol.

It doesn't bother me much but thought I'll just check if there are options other than what Samsung chat says.

  • Where did you buy from ? Was it refurbished?

Cash converters. Originally 1k but hooked it up and saw it so called them and said I'll offer 400 or a full refund. They came back with 500 and i feel its fair. Its a nice screen and its not annoying. Its more resale value would be knocked down a lot and possibly future dead pixels.

Worried about the resale value of 2nd hand monitor? LOL

Well I bought my first 49" monitor for 1.1k. Sold it for 1.1k and got the G9 for 1. Sokd that for 1.1k and both an OLED for 1k and sold it for 1.3k the other day. I never buy new tech stuff coz its a waste of money.

So with this, paying 500 bucks I can see the resale value at 500 bucks with 1 dead pixel especially it not in the way. Resale value should ALWAYS be a factor in anything you buy rlse you just not forward thinking imo.

LOL IT hardware doesn't go up in value, only down…..

You got a $2k monitor for 25% of its value and then worried about resale value… Think about that for a bit.

            • @JimmyF: Yes I do coz I know I would pay 1k for a monitor with a dead pixel. I would assume 500 is an ok price.. but what if it starts getting more dead pixels. Its less than a year old. So if there is a way to get it fixed and I got it for 500 bucks thats a huge bonus

  • Does 1 dead pixel fall within there acceptable standards anyway?

According to google 1 to 5 is fine haha. But Its also more for what if in the future…

It doesn't bother me at all its in the right side and for $500, honesly couldn't care.

So why did you make a thread about it then?

        • -2

To see if theres a way to get it sorted without having to pay and future proof the screen. So in a few years when something better co.es out it doesn't cost me as much to upgrade. Oled is very nice. I liked the scree but 1800R curve sucks and text on it is horrible compared to other screens.

@RenVilo: You paid $500 for it, in a few years if you get $300 for it, you lost $200. Big whoop. IT hardware goes down in value not up as its ages.

            • @JimmyF: I WISH i kept my apple ][e and Atari 1040STE.

              • @BewareOfThe Dog: Sure, there are some expectations to the rules after a few decades have passed, but certainly not the norm in the short term.

If the OP wants to hold onto it for 20-40 years, it might be worth more! But then I don't see people lining up to pay big dollars for sony trinitron monitors from back in the day.

        • Because they're trying to scam a repair.

How old is the monitor (as in, when did it come out?)

If it’s less than a couple of years old, I would escalate with Samsung.

A couple of years ago, a guy at work had a Samsung phone that was faulty and Samsung refused to warranty claim it without the invoice. He argued that the phone was only released in Australia in the last year

    • Well the manufacturer date is 2024/03. It had all the stickers so its either a demo model or someone stoles it coz no one will sell it like this. The stand and cables were all still sealed.

Warranty is often only applied to the purchaser or someone providing they are the owner, so having a valid invoice is required.

The OP is trying to scam Samsung into a repair, thinking they can then flip the monitor for a profit.

        • I'll rather sell a 100% working screen

Then maybe you shouldn't have purchased a screen with a dead pixel then.

  • It won't bother me if it is not in the centre. I had a 55ich samsung monitor and there was a dead pixel at the bottom corner. I am not replacing the panel or the whole monitor because It is a pain to pack it up.

    • Agreed, most of the time it comes to the location and what mode the pixel is in. A dead pixels aka black in a corner is a nothing. A Pixel stuck yellow in the center is an issue.
