How to Fill or 'Gloss Over' Fairly Small Chips in Some Stone Sculptures

I bought some arty stone sculptures in Zimbabwe a few years ago.

They were bumped around during a recent move and have nicks and smallish chips. I am looking for a clear filler or gloss-over cream or whatever to renovate them. I've searched the 'net but no luck. Even just the best wording for a narrower internet search or a 'home remedy' would be appreciated.

I would attach an image but can't find a way to do this.

  • why am I getting all this 'Step One' stuff as responses to this question? And what is all this other stuff?

You even need an answer, for the obvious?
Because you expect a forum to answer without a picture of the item and damage, and then have just ignored all advice on how to get a picture up. The work ethic you have received in response to your request has been greater than yours inward, thus far.

You may as well ask if someone here can call around, take the carving away, fix it and bring it back at a time that suits you.

  • They are teasing you for their own humour.

Protractor, people like you discourage well-meaning people from contributing. Keep your inane assumptions to yourself - everyone will be better off.
If any of the people who told me how, said 'this is how', I would have followed it. It was the other stuff that confused me.
I've now uploaded the photo, but don't know how to attach it to my question. (It's called 'stone sculpture.jpg').
As I said, I tried to find a suitable product or solution already, so if anyone other than protroller has any ideas, please let me know.

    • No worries, then google it or youtube search the problem. I've repaired stone carvings myself.
Major & minor repairs, but I've never figured out how to use mentalist skills to help someone else do it by remote desktop. I won't be starting now, either . So best of luck.

Followed up by someone trying to help you even further

Seriously? Next time ask for lit up neon signs and flashing arrows.

It was the other stuff that confused me.

Ask your mummy to wipe your nose and hold your hand.

Discourage well meaning people from contributing?

      Indeed.

  • how to cover your chips?

you probably want clear epoxy resin that gets used for jewellery

either that, or a lot of tomato sauce

  • I searched further, and found this, for smallish scratches, sometimes 'reapplied'. It's not perfect, but really very surprisingly good.
It bloody worked for me, on glass and on my stone statues!
I think some of the other good suggestions would be far more effective, particularly for more serious scratches or gouges.

    "Toothpaste
… for removing scratches from glass … a small dab of toothpaste may help. …
Apply the toothpaste to a soft cleaning rag (or rub it on with your finger ed).
Gently rub the scratched area, checking to see your progress.
Repeat the process until the scratch can no longer be seen."
