Fridge Decision (LG Vs Hisense)

Hi everyone, I'm looking to buy a new fridge. Currently i'm looking at these 2 model:
1. Hisense 640L French Door Refrigerator HRCD640TBW
https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/hisense-640l-french-door-refr…
2. LG 530L French Door Refrigerator GF-B505PL
https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/lg-530l-french-door-refrigera…
I know the price range is not the same, I really like the features on the Hisense.
I had bad experience with my 2 Westinghouse French door both failed within 2 years (luckily still in warranty), so just wanted to look for a reliable fridge.
Any thoughts guys? I don't have Choice subscription so anyone could check the review of these 2 for me, would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

What were the issues OP? We've only had a couple of Westinghouses for the past 20+ years, the older one we gave away still working but the seals needed replacement. Both were top mount format though.

    • My first one was this Westinghouse WQE6000SB 541L Quad French Door Fridge, i think the compressor failed after 1 year 10 months (luckily it still had 2 months warranty). So they gave me a replacement Westinghouse 564L French Quad Door Refrigerator Matte Black wqe5600ba. After a year, the fridge section was not working. So i called them a had a technician coming to replace a part (it's a known issue for this model), then a few months after, the fridge section started to freeze my food, had another technician coming and still waiting for the part to arrive, been more than a month so I asked them for a refund. They arranged credit store with the good guys, so now I think i'm gonna try the other brands. Maybe i was just unlucky

      • Sounds tiring. Yeah I don't blame you for wanting to try another brand.

Get a Mitsubishi if you want reliable.

    • The good guys doesn't stock Mitsubishi unfortunately

From what you have described, the manufacture has provided the authority for the retailer to return the fridge for a known fault / parts not arriving in a reasonable time frame.
That does not mean you are stuck with a store credit with The Good Guys and should be opting for a refund as an option, as JIMB0 has suggested Mitsubishi Electric is a great option in freestanding refrigeration.

Hisense has the better warranty, 3 years vs 2.
But also more complicated, so more likely to have trouble?

Do you really want the ice/water dispenser and extra capacity?

    • Good question, I've never had a fridge with ice/water dispenser before, that's why I wanted to try one haha

  • Following this thread. About to buy the same

If you want a reliable fridge, look into brands like Mitsubishi Electric or Hitachi.

Otherwise the general rule is also to avoid any fridge with an Ice & Water dispenser as they are the first thing that goes wrong which in my experience is often within 5 years needing a repair.
If you pull the ice container out, you will see that it is a normal ice tray that automatically twists into a container, then a metal gear spins onto a plastic gear that then spins a metal coil to push ice cubes forward so just natural wear and tear.

This exactly how my Mitsubishi Electric has failed - it's 10 years old however. Other than that, the Fridge has held up very well, with a teenager constantly inside cleaning it out. The fit and finish and seals have held up very well - and still looks brand new. Just the Ice making has failed.

My Hisense looks exactly like that and after 12 months the paint on the doors has worn off and you can see the metal, family of two no kids so it's not getting cleaned every 5 minutes. Also if you don't push the doors hard enough they can stay open and there is no alarm. I'd never buy another one.

    • there is no alarm

Hmmm, must be different models as the page says

      Door Alarm
The door alarm will remind you if you accidently left the fridge door open. The smart sensor can detect if the door is open and let you know, to make sure your food won’t spoil.

  • We are twenty months into owning a GF-L570MBNL, LG frenchdoor with non plumbed Ice/Water.
Has not missed a beat, its quiet, the ice maker makes no noise at night. Freezer drawers are excellent , fridge section can get a little awkward but nothing terrible. Fruit/Veg drawers keep produce real well.

    • My parents are 5+ (?) years with the plumbed version.

Only issue so far has been the switch behind the dispenser failing open (water keeps coming). Switch has been replaced twice - tech said it was quite common - but hasn't been an issue for the last 3 or 4 years (probably been updated).

20 months is still the honeymoon phase.

  • Just look at the better quality of the LG, better seals, more solid shelves, more insulation in the doors.
Hisense are made cheaper and you can feel it where they've cheaped out.

  • We have an LG in the shed that we bought second hand. Hasn't missed a beat in over 10 years. We have a Whirlpool as our primary fridge/freezer in the house. We've had it for 18 years, no issues.

  • Thanks guys, i guess I'll go with the LG one then. Hopefully i get lucky with this one
