Recommend Me a Coffee Shop in Sydney

Hey everyone, we are going to Sydney soon for a little getaway and the Mrs and I love to have a great daily coffee and was hoping someone can recommend to me where to go?

We are staying around the Circular Quay area of Sydney and we don’t mind taking a little walk to get something decent.

Now I know everyone has different opinions on coffee but just after some recommendations.

Living on the Gold Coast we have tried a lot and I mean a lot of areas around where we live and they are not great and then you get some places that are ok but the baristas are not great so you get that burnt taste or too milky

Thanks!

the Mrs and I love to have a great daily coffee ….We always get a Carmel Lattes

Hmmmm. Maybe a Starbucks, 11-17 York Street or 201 Elizabeth Street?

      Thanks for the input
Appreciate it but going by how our Starbucks is here on the GC it’s not to our liking but that’s not to say it’s not great as everyone has a different opinion

We find the more independent cafes are better then the chain ones

I think you missed the point of the comment

Kwila and Normcore do really good coffee. Not near Circular Quay but will be in your Sydney CHD travels, more so Normcore

Full disclosure: bith places will secretly judge you for getting caramel lattes

        • Thanks!

I hope the stores in Sydney are better than the ones in Melbourne. The last few times I've tried Starbucks it's been terrible coffee for a premium price.

      • +4

They're terrible everywhere in my opinion.

      • +1

Starbucks is not coffee!!! its either dirty muddy water or dark sugar water. no actual coffee is provided in a starbucks store worldwide!

    • Coffee is a very personal taste.
Whats good to one person is terrible to another.

Suggest OP tries coffees in different places and see which one you like the best.
After all, its not just about the coffee…

Its about the experience, the location, the ambience and more!

And going on a discovery tour is part of the pleasure of a holiday.

But certainly one can start where they see queues and crowds.
Its definitely an indication of a good coffee shop!

    Aslan Coffee at the Rocks

  • McDonalds. With 3 orders of fries. Wait until the fries are cold and stale. And sit there most of the day staring at your phone. This is pretty much my daily routine while traveling.

  • Check this
    Toby's Estate South Eveleigh
Shop 13/2 Central Ave, Eveleigh NSW 2015
They said is one of the best coffee around, is near Central station

    • +2

Eveleigh is not near Central Station. Near Redfern Station more like.

There's a Toby's Estate closer to Central on City Road in Chippendale

La Renaissance and Fine Food Store are do coffee and are nearby in the Rocks. Belgian Chocolate cafe does a nice hot chocolate but their coffee is average.

    • Ha! We're visiting Sydney and the Mrs just had an utterly delicious coconut hot chocolate there, but my latte was very average

We always get a Carmel Lattes

I'm not a coffee drinker but is this even considered a real coffee?

      Hence the Starbucks recommendation.

Ahhh. Coffee with 10 caramel flavoured sugars makes scents. Cheers

Some might say it is like asking which 20 year old whiskey to get to mix with coke

Recommend Me a Coffee Shop in Sydney

This is one of the best, but it's a bit of a walk though…

recommend to me where to go?

    Go to Melbourne.

We always get a Carmel Lattes
Might as well go to McDonalds if you just like the taste of caramel.
But seeing you're staying in Circular Quay
    * Banksia Bakehouse does excellent coffee and possibly Australia's best almond croissant.
    * Cabrito Coffee Traders
    * Skittle Lane
    * Dutch Smuggler
I'd recommend just getting most of these as a takeaway and walking down to enjoy the harbour.
    Bonus recommendation:
    * LODE pies does great pastries, pick one up after visiting Dutch Smuggler or Cabrito.

We always get a Carmel Lattes

Who is Carmel? and does she also make macchiatos?

    • I like the taste of Coffee but with the caramel too. I don’t like it full on caramel

  • Kingswood Coffee is apparently one of the best in Sydney: https://www.kingswoodcoffee.online/

There's also a mixed divide between people that love Campos Coffee, and others that don't rate it.

      Not the Kingswood !!!

Leave your money on the fridge…

I don’t know about coffee but if you are into carrot cakes I can strongly recommend Flour and Stone.
    https://flourandstone.com.au/shop/cakes-and-tarts/

    • Only if you have recently won the lottery. They are extremely over-priced for what you get.

  • Normcore which pops up around here occasionally has a store near St James station. It is a bit of a walk but if you are going to Chinatown its only 2blocks out of the way

    Skittle Lane, Edition Roasters, Gumption

    • +1

If OP is staying in Circular Quay, Edition Roaster is a great option for a daily hit.
There is one in Wynyard station to the lft side as you enter from George Street

    • +1

also Mecca, Industry Beans, Diggy Doos, Chinatown Country Club

      • +1 for Diggy Doos, but pricey.

  • Thanks for the comments

Artificer Coffee. Very unique taste. Don't ruin it with added flavours.

    Carmel Lattes

I was very confused here. This is an extra white coffee with a load of caramel flavouring in it?

Doesn't the extra milk and caramel overpower anything to do with the coffee?

Just go anywhere- hard to find a crappy cafe around Circular Quay.

  • I thoroughly recommend Quince Cafe in East gardens. Shopping centre. You won't be disappointed.

    • Thanks

Hi there, I was a long time Sydney-sider and recently moved to up to QLD!

I personally find coffee up here pretty bad overall so I make my own at home daily.
Despite what my Melbourne friends think I believe Sydney has some of the best coffee in the country so you're in for a treat!

In Sydney I can easily recommend "Batch", they have a few locations near Wynyard and Central CBD Area and are a staple favourite for office workers in the area serving up great campos coffee. FYI Campos is the much better Sydney version of "Merlo" in QLD and they have their flagship cafe in Newtown if you're interested.

Near Hyde Park, I can recommend Pablo & Rusty, a great roaster operating a solid cafe under their own name in the city. The coffee is served at a lower temperature (I assume 60-65 degrees) in the store so it is easier to drink immediately and easier for the more subtle flavours to come out. unlike some cafe's who let their coffees get to a piping 80 degrees so I burn my tongue and can't taste the coffee.

Other notable names to try could be Leible Coffee in the central city area, Industry Beans and Mecca Coffee. All STRONG hitters with solid self-roasted beans.

Down the southern end of the city area I remember Kafe Klooks in haymarket/ultimo region has Great roti wraps and GREAT coffee serving Genovese beans.

There are many many more great locations I could spend days naming but try these out first and see how you go!

EDIT: I didn't see the caramel latte part, apologies; I second the starbucks recommendation?

This edit made me LOL. All that effort for a great post to be undermined by caramel flavouring.

    • Thanks for the reply

    • Batch is decent. Last time I was in Sydney I got a coffee there and I saw the price (relatively cheap compared to other places) and assumed it would be rubbish but it was quite good.

If it wasn't for the caramel latte comment is be recommending Stitch, probably my favourite in Sydney.

  • The grounds

  • Hatch Cafe at Central Station has excellent coffee.

  • Toby's at the base of 388 George St.
It's my daily and can definitely recommend it.

  • Hi i'm just gonna braindump a list of my favourite coffee places, they are all located somewhere not too far from the city.
    The Q on Harris
    Deluca
    ONA
    Dutch Smuggler
    ASLAN

Can't go wrong with those (Y)

  • Gypsy coffee in Potts Point

  • Pattinson's cafe Rouse Hill town centre. Catch the metro. Only a 1hr trip each way. I've tried many places and this place has been the most consistent. To me, Consistency= Quality.
