Gaming Laptop under $1500

Hi, I have a budget of $1500, I’m after a gaming laptop.

I’m new to PC gaming so doesn’t have to be hard core. All the gaming laptops around or under that prices seem to have mediocre reviews. All I would be using for is GTA5/6 and Sim racing. I would be looking at getting a monitor in the future as well. Anyone had any experience with any of the usual computers in the budget? i.e. MSI Cyborg, Acer Nitro, HP Victus, Gigabyte g6, Lenovo LOQ.

Plus, any good deals as EOFY is now closing.

Thanks!

Why did you need to create a new account to ask?

Have a look at https://metabox.com.au/ and Welcome to OzBargain.

      Thanks, I’ll check them out

      • If you are going to order a Metabox machine, make sure you do your homework regarding warranty. Not the stuff that they advertise, but what the real life experiences are. Mine weren't all that great. I would not buy another Metabox again.

You get far more bang for your buck if buying tower PCs rather than laptops - especially if adding monitor, etc

For example, a $1500 tower will have twice the compute / GPU performance of a $1500 laptop :/

    Often better to get a $500 laptop for business/portable and a $1000 Xbox/PS for games :P

Maybe I’m jumping the gun then. I have an outdated one s and I’m also needing a new laptop so I thought I could kill two bird with the one stone but it seems it may not be worth it for my budget. Maybe I just get a smaller sim setup for my xbox and out grow that and just get a basic laptop for now like you said

That's what I thought. If you've got money, just buy a separate laptop, and a separate PC.

You'll probably regret it. I"ve owned gaming laptops for 5 years. They're underpowered desktops, and heavy laptops, with poor battery life.

I've broke the cycle. I've bought an M3 Mac, to replace my Gaming Laptop. The Gaming Laptop will now be used as a desktop, and I'll buy a gaming PC, to replace it, when it doesn't meet my requirements.

      • Don't try to kill two birds with one stone. You'll end up with a couple of birds mocking you and chances are you'll run our of stones.

Seriously, the gaming requirements are what makes for laptops that are more like portable computers. Gaming means heavy and large laptops with poor battery life. Cooling will be also a problem/challenge.

My advice would be to get a cheap(ish), lightweight laptop with great battery life and build a gaming PC from parts. Don't waste money on fancy cases or RGB lighting. If you have the space, a full ATX case will be future proof, easy to work on and not present headaches with cooling. Put it under the table - you won't be looking at it when playing.

    • 500 dollar? Cmon man. It's gotta be at least 1k, preferably closer to 2k. Don't cheap out, on something you'll use everyday.

  • Sim racing off laptop is asking for a bad time. Going to be underpowered for sure.
