Check out the newest series from Will Wight, the New York Times best-selling author of the Cradle series!

The Last Horizon is a planned seven-book fantasy series in a world of spacefaring adventure, light on science but heavy on magic. It's the story of a wizard leading the greatest starship in the galaxy against the most deadly threats their universe has ever faced.

If you want to watch a wizard shoot a cyborg zombie in the face with a plasma pistol, you're in the right place.

Was just free in February so you may already have them.

Presumably to promote Book 4 which was released today (not free).

I think I'll give Will $10, I've enjoyed a lot of his books for free.

Hahahaha, you and me both brother!

Not enjoying these anywhere near the Cradle series. YMMV

Felt vol 1 was meh, but enjoyed 2 and 3. Will commence 4 shortly.

Same, once story builds it’s pretty good.
Cradle had a lot of character development, story and system building.
This one more space pew pew!!

    • do you know of another series like the cradle ones?

      • prob any of the Chinese Xianxia stories (which this is based on) that are build on cultivation, mythology, powers etc…I am sure there would be some that have been translated to English. I watch a lot of CDrama and KDrama xianxia and similar, so that are all like that sort of story line

Bastion. The hell theme turned me off originally but it's basically just cradle on a loosely hell themed planet. Really good!

Did you see he recently release a cradle revisit? With a bunch of extra stories from across all the books and a few after ascension.

    Yes, yes i do.

Man I loved Cradle so much. But I could NOT get into this series - made it to book 2 but it was a chore all the way before conking out. Cradle was slow to begin too though - I'm not sure it's worth pushing through. It certainly isn't believed like his other series.

    • Cradle was awesome. Semi related.. I found similar themes, have you seen Alchemy of Souls tv show on Netflix?

      • yes, I have….I thought that was great…and yes similar sort of thing (as this is based on that sort of genre)….plenty of shows to watch (Xianxia and similar) on Netflix, Viki, and IQIYI etc….I love my CDrama and KDrama now….can't get enough. I used to read for hours every single night for about 35 years (and reading regularly before that since I was 11), but now it is like watching fantasy come to life….they certainly know how to produce a great fantasy drama!

  • Strangely I enjoy this more than Cradle. Cradle was my first progression fantasy and I did like it, but it got stale after 10 books. I think the writing is better here, even if the overall story is a bit looser

    • guess it all depends on your preference for sci fi over fantasy. I started on sci fi in the early 80's and then gradually changed over to fantasy in the late 80's….sometimes reading sci fi or steampunk, but mainly fantasy.

Yeah I hear you, kind of followed the same path but in reverse, started out with books like Magician in the early 90s but have shifted more sci fi as I've got older. It might also be that all the main characters in the Last Horizon series are closer to middle age than childhood, more relatable to my old arse.

        • I grew up on Heinlein, Asimov, Herbert, Zimmer Bradley etc…then went across to fantasy, yes Feist (Magician), McCaffrey, Wurts etc etc. I have so many books here it isn't funny (some of them reread 10 times). Having the newer ones digitally certainly helped on shelf space completely running out lol….although took me a while to get onto it, as nothing like holding a physical book.

@souths123: Nothing quite matches a real book, but a proper e reader is pretty close. E-ink is like some sort of magic, I can't imagine reading a book on a phone screen or whatever but I do just fine with my kindle.
