Guidance and Recommendations for Credit Cards

We have a home loan and offset account with Bank Australia, and an everyday account with a different bank altogether.

To maximise the potential of the offset account, our “finance savvy” friends recommended living off a credit card and have all of our money live in the offset, always paying the credit card off each month.

So how to choose a credit card? We have two young kids and won’t be travelling anytime soon, so the idea of travel insurance or frequent flyer points that the cards seem to offer wouldn’t be of much benefit in the short term… although something that accumulated points for us to use once the kids are older would be nice..??

  • The Kogan Money black money card is good. No annual fee. You get 1% back in purchases made anywhere, given as points, which can be spent online at Kogan Marketplace. $300 signup credit (this was $400 up to June 30th).

    • This sounds good, too good.

      What's the downside or gotcha?

  • Look up for Coles No Annual fee card, it could suit you well since no annual fee and get a bit of Flybuys points along the way. Upgrade or move to higher tier cards with bonus sign-up later once you ready.
