Got a craving to play MGS 4 again after all these years. Don't have a ps3. What's the most cost effective way to play it properly? Should I emulate or buy a pre owned ps3. What's the reliability of second hand ps3s like now?

i tried the emulator it wasn't perfect 60fps constant 40-60dips. but definitely playable. Personally i am gonna wait for the MGS Collection Vol II, hopefully they include 4 in that.

Vol 1 included MGS1, 2 & 3, so Vol 2 will almost certainly include MGS4. We know they're working on it, but who knows when it'll come out.

PS3's are pretty reliable, I still have some running with thousands of hours, but they can suddenly fail like anything. If you get the super slim model I have found that to be the most reliable now.
Most cost effective is to find a cheap, but nice condition pre-owned console that comes with a Dualshock 3, boxed if possible (for easier resale) You can be picky as there is so many of them around. Less likely to be a fake DS3 (which is a thing) if the seller still has the box I feel.
Should be able to get one for under $100, maybe slightly more if it comes with games.You can then put HFW on the PS3 to play backups, takes around 30 mins via youtube guide and is very simple - just need to put some files on a USB and run them.
You can then format it and sell it when you're done and probably break even.

reliability will depend on how old and thrashed the console is, but generally speaking you should be fine
