TCL Nxtpaper screens are certainly no better then a tablet for reading. I'm not sure why they'd be any good at gaming. They're nothing like e-ink, you can't read them in the sun, they're no different to reading on monochrome lcd screen in "ink mode". if you're inside reading say a comic or colour graphic novel, then they're good,

TCL Nxtpaper screens are certainly no better then a tablet for reading.

The matte surface is a lot better at preventing glare than the glossy surface of a normal tablet.

but you still can't read it. i was going to get one as a kindle replacement and it was terrible in sunlight. Monochrome mode for the "e-ink" mode is just like those cheap lcd eReaders or like the old lcd videogames.

would like to see an update promise before buying a TCL. And a processor that is not 7 Years old

The TCL Next 11 Plus is out, and has a new, faster processor. I've been looking at this as blue light eye strain is a major problem for me, but the reviews of the original NXTPAPER 11 universally damn it because of the slow processor.

  • this or 360deg laptop/chromebook9maybe refurbished) to move away from always using phone for everything

    • From my experience, cheap windows laptops with low-end processors are almost always not worth it as they chug as soon as you start filling up the storage, or after windows does a few updates. But software support is quite long given the nature of an x86 system.

ChromeOS is very lightweight, and it can run Android apps. So I feel like it is the best of both if you want something with a keyboard. And ChromeOS devices are guaranteed software support for longer than any Android tablet, as Google handles all the updates, not the manufacturers. The only gripe I would have with a ChromeOS device is poor performance in games, at least compared to an equivalent cost Android tablet. For casual use, they are good enough.

12nm CPU in 2025. wow! how is this still being sold

  • So my kid is really into the One Piece graphic novels, reading them in cbz format. What's better than this for under say $300? I don't think I can afford an actual colour e-ink reader but wondering if an aliexpress tablet with a matt screen protector would be better than this?

I bought this Nxtpaper months ago for the sole purpose of comics reading and it's brilliant. The paper-like screen really makes it difference. I read in the house, not at the beach, so I haven't noticed any issues with the brightness. I also use Netflix and DisneyPlus and it's fine. It's not as whipsmart quick as an iPad, but the older processor doesn't make a difference when I'm reading in my Kindle or CBZ reader app. Also, there is a black-and-white mode that makes the screen even more paper-like, similar (but not exactly like) a Kindle or Kobo.

    • Exactly, it's easy to sh*t on an old tablet, but there not much alternative for 220$. I wish they just 50% the regular version, not LTE, would have been even cheaper.

I personally could not find anything better at this price for comics and reading

  • So a Matt display and LTE what am I missing…and people were shitting on the s6 lite. And there's still better tablets in AliE for something Vanilla.

MIC Low priced budget tablets are doa in my opinion as they aren't likely provide updates. This tablet ain't getting one…
