New Haval Jolion 2025 - Owners Please Help

Hi all, we decided to buy a brand new Haval Jolion Lux edition and got some concerns and basic know how that we can’t find anywhere. If someone can help that would be great specially the new owners.

  1. The Car has been smelling of something burning inside and outside the car. When we drove home day 1 we thought it’s just new car burning the top coating. I drove 50km still the same smell coming out. It’s like burnt rubber or something like paint burning. Engine temperature and bonnet is cool. Is there an issue with the car?

  2. During the handover of the car, we were told the log books for the first service is 10,000km or 12 months. However, the sticker on the windshield states 1500km. Which one is correct as we don’t want to lose warranty?

  3. Does the side mirrors got auto dipping when in reverse gear? The side mirror usually dips to a pre-select level and when you change to drive gear it goes up again.

Can you smell it outside the car? Have you tried changing the air con settings to see when it is most noticable?

First "service" is usually 1000km or 1500km depending on the manufacturer just as a bit of a check. It isn't an oil change or anything on the first "service", it takes about 45 mins for a once over to ensure everything is a o kay. Usually, then its every 10,000 or 15,000 after that (various from manufacturer). My 2021 Ford Ranger and my wife's 2022 Hyundai Tuscon is every 15,000kms. Go based on the sticker on.

What does the manual say? ChatGPT says no, it doesn't. Must be a high end car feature of something, I've never seen that in a new car or knew it was a thing!

Dipping mirrors with reverse is a great feature! Helps save the rims whilst getting that perfect parallel park.

    • "I've never seen that in a new car or knew it was a thing!"
Our 2006 Caprice has this as a switchable function. 2006

By the sounds of it in this case , I'd be getting the 1,500 kilometres service so that burnt rubber issue sorted.

  • Might need more than 100km if someone has split something in the engine space see if it is stronger when u lift the hood. Eg oil, brake fluid, radiator top up after it comes off the ship.

    1. Side mirrors

If it's anything like our Honda you need the side mirror adjustment switch in a specific position otherwise it won't work.

Might have to read the manual on that one.

    • Same with our old car. We were able to choose which mirror dipped (or neither) using the selector switch. I miss that feature.

Mum and Dad just got one as well. It also has a new car "burning" smell; personally I wouldn't be concerned as the more you drive it the more it will go away. If you are really concerned I'd take it back to the dealer.

I don't have a Haval, mine is just a humble second-hand Toyota so I can only answer 3 & 1. Yes my mirrors dip in reverse, is a standard feature. No I don't have a burning smell. Hope this helps.

And this is why you don’t buy these cars

    • I dislike these cars as much as other people but let's be honest, this is not a "chinese car company bad" thing. Any new car can and will have this sort of smell.

      • May I ask why you hate Haval Jolion?

        • I don't think its the specific car and/or brand, just more the chinese cheap brands they dislike.

I'd rather roll the dice on one of these than a German car.

We have a Jolion Lux Hybrid.
    1. That maybe a new car smell. don't recollect having the same in our car.
    2. 1500kms check is a 1 month check to see if everything is fine with the car. its like a free service where any issues u face will be addressed under warranty. I had our wheel alignment and some other issues fixed for free, under warranty though. Maybe get the burning smell thing looked at.
    3. Mirror dipping is only in high end cars or top spec models. the Jolions don't have this. I think H6 and the tanks have them though.

Enjoy the Jolion. It is an amazing car.

Go back to the dealer for your free check up when you hit 1500kms and ask them about the burning smell and the mirrors. Or, in other words, in a few weeks when it's time for number 2, do number 1 and number 3 at the same time. :)

  • Not 100% sure and I tried to google but is the smell the car doing a DPF burn? I know my DMax does a burn every so often and smells like what you've described. Kind of like you've ridden the clutch home.

lazy post…call your dealer and ask all of your questions.

    • call your dealer and ask all of your questions

Oh they did, and they got a really bad answer for point 2.

  • Just contacted the dealership and got the following answers
    1. Burning smell is apparently normal for the first 1000km as the brakes are bedding in. I drove 154km approximately and hoping to monitor this for the next few weeks.
    2. The dealership says 1500km sticker just ignore it and get the service done at 10k km or 12 months. I doubt as there’s a reason for the sticker. Should I contact a nearby GWM service centre and ask them for my first service? It would be good for a free quick check but don’t want to pay now.
    3. The side mirror dipping only comes on Tank300 and 500 models. So no Jolion has this basic feature.
I gotta buy one of those small round mirrors to check the roadside curbs otherwise get curb rashes.

No, don't ignore it. Get it done. It should be free. The sales guy should've told you this as a part of the process.

They are very good for curbs and blind spots. I've had them on 3 cars and couldn't go without.

Just called nearby GWM and they told me to go back to the dealership as they do a free inspection at 1500km etc. I’m not sure why the sales guy told me to ignore the 1500km quick service. That (profanity) didn’t even give me the car mats which was part of the package. I was only told that there’s a wait of 3-4 weeks for the car mats while picking up the car.

Would you be able to recommend me a good one to buy and where to fit it in (at which point on the side mirror)? Is it the bottom part nearest to the window or the furthest?
You need just or for the passenger side of both?

Supercheap and I find the furthest outside edge of the mirror, away from the car. You can get some that are adjustable. I think this is it - https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/cabin-crew-cabin-crew-bl…

You need just or for the passenger side of both?

          Both.

        • +1

When you drop it off for the 1500KM service, tell them (demand) you are owed the mats, and that you expect them to be in the car when you pick it up.

  • +3

Smell is residue on exhaust burning off, also maybe brakes. Nothing to worry about

    1500km then annual

    No dipping mirrors

  • Probably just the asbestos gaskets and brake pads bedding in.

  • I bought my current car as a demo and instead of a new-car smell, it smelled of fried rice. Took months for the smell to go. I even looked under seats /in boot / spare tyre bay etc thinking for sure there was something left in the car causing the smell, but nope.

    • My wife was sick and vomited unexpectedly in her own car all over the dash and car pet…. imagine that smell around for a couple of months. It was not nice. I am glad it was her car……

  • 1) Probably the catalytic converter and various "oily things" on the engine. Drive it a bit harder. Make it hot and burn it off. Run an engine in slow and it will be slow forever.

    2) 1500km is just a look at fluid levels. Worth doing.

  • Guys the sales guy is reluctant to do the 1500km inspection as per the windshield sticker. I tried sending him messages that I spoke with two other dealerships service center and they said it’s built into the price and they check for fluid levels.

Do I escalate this to his manager? Before I do is there an online info on this somewhere? I’m really pissed off with this salesman - he informed the mats were coming in late after 3-4 weeks while picking up the car.

    • +1

Escalate. If the yard has an admin roll up and ask to speak to the manager of the business. Have your issues written down. Go through them one by one. Tell them you want resolution, you're not happy, but are willing to step up to rescue THEIR shit attitude and move fwd.Make sure you're happy with the response or go as high as you can. This is more about them sticking to their own protocols and therefore showing they are up to the task at hand. Which is using their systems, to protect your asset, with their name on it.

Surely these are questions to be asked and sorted at Dealership Service Dept level.
