The 100% Merino wool clothing are a great bargain too e.g. Men's Merino Long Sleeve Top for $30.

    Other Merino clothing: https://www.aldi.com.au/results?q=Merino

    • Those Merino layers are great.

I have a Merino t-shirt from two years back and it does a great job of adding warmth without much bulk.

    • Heaps odour resistant too.. can wear these long sleevers quite a few times before a wash is needed. Much cheaper than brand names and the fit is pretty good as well.

    • still wearing mine from 9 years ago. best merino piece ive had beating decathlon and a few NZ brands. bit ugly

Just went to look but the loft in these jackets are much less than the one I have from few years ago. Have the down fill gone down fair bit?

    • +1

Yep, definitely not as warm as the used to be. To their credit, they're retained the $49.99 price tag all these years

      • +1

Not as warm as the Aldi down jackets from last year, or two or more ago ?

      • +2

Same for their merino thermals too, I have some still good old (5+ years) ones that are much more weighty and thick, whereas ones bought from recent years are way thinner and get damaged much easier.

Makes sense when they're still targeting the same price, but at this point I end up having to consider more expensive brands anyway if I want the items to last.

Specs say 800 loft. These jackets are normally 650 ?

Filling: 90% duck down, 10% feathers (800 cuin loft)

Bought a woman's pink jacket today. Seems pretty good

And machine washable, darling. That's a new feature.

    • I wash my macpac puffer in the machine.

      Gentle cycle. Wool detergent

Drip dry and then in the dryer with a few tennis balls

Polyester fill - not down. No deal.

But 28… if still cold could get 2 and should be warmer than this. Lol

bought this one a few years, down filling is good but the exterior polyester is as thin as glad wrap. I'm constantly patching holes.

  • Wow. Mine from pre-covid was also this price

  • +2

This is not how it used to be. The weight of the jacket with the packaging is around 360grams, so without packaging i think it will be around 340-50 grams(Use to be above 510grams).

Macpac Halo Down(Non hoded) has 205 of fill and 325 is the jacket material weight. Even if the Aldi material weight is lighter it will be minimal around 300 grams, So this one contains barely 50-60grams of fill while the previous ones used to have alot more than this.

  • Bought this puffer about 3 years ago and been my regular winter wear. Wife and kids wear branded gear and ALDI for me.

  • +2

I bought one yesterday in the exact same size as last year's, but I noticed the sleeves are 5 cm shorter and the fabric feels noticeably cheaper.

  • have had mine for 5 years…great jacket for the price

    • Batches change every year

  • +1

Tried one on, the sleeves are incredibly short.
