OzBargain Extension Broke My Chrome Browser

I’m absolutely frustrated and looking for some support here. I recently installed the OzBargain Chrome extension, and immediately after doing so, Google Chrome stopped loading altogether. I've tried everything from restarting my PC, uninstalling and reinstalling Chrome, to deleting Chrome profiles, but nothing seems to work. The issue started right after installing the extension, and I’m wondering if it’s causing the browser to crash.

Has anyone else experienced this issue after installing the OzBargain extension? I rely on Chrome for everything: work, business, personal browsing, and this issue has completely thrown me off track. If this is affecting others, I think it’s high time the OzBargain admins take a look and fix any bugs or compatibility issues in the extension. This is causing real disruption for users, and it’d be great if we could get some visibility on this and get it addressed quickly.

I’m wondering if the issue lies with the extension, or if it’s just a coincidence. If you’ve faced the same problem or have any insights, please share!!!

If you have to use Chrome for work and business, you should use FireFox for personal browsing. Keep them separate.

I "have" to use chrome at work and use Brave and FireFox at home. I learnt very early on not to log into Chrome at work. All I get is work related shit on my home computer and porn errrr… "AliExpress" recommendations at work.

Not sure, but from my experience Chrome is overrated. Manually dealing with or deleting history has to be the biggest cock idea of any browser I've used. And the grunt it uses per experience is pretty ordinary. It's functional for most things. but a drain and with some basic flaws.

Most people want their history saved, not deleted.

  • I can't see how they would make it physically possible for an extension to break Chrome. Seems like that would be a pretty stupid thing to do.

    have you tried: https://superuser.com/questions/822429/how-to-start-chrome-without-plugins

Topic is a bit old, but I bet the command line switches havent changed.

+++ To rule out OZB extension being the cause.

But then OP has already tried deleting profiles - which should then delete 90% of extensions associated (except for those installed at root base).

Sounds like a completely different issue causing OP's problems.

  • is there an extension?

  • Best to post feedback and issues here

  • Plenty other browsers on offer. Vivaldi, Brave, Edge & Firefox to name a few.

  • There an extention?… What for?

  • Anyone should separate browser for work and personal … At least Chrome for work and Chrome Portable (check this from portableapps website) for personal if you don't want to use any other browsers. Even Edge browser (based on Chromium too) in your computer is getting better …

I’m wondering if the issue lies with the extension, or if it’s just a coincidence.

Consider the OzBargain extension (available on Chrome Web Store and Firefox Add-On) only requests permission for

    • activeTab (to get the URL of your current tab)
    • API calls to ozbargain.com.au
    • no scripting access to the current tab, no background tasks, etc

I doubt it's OzBargain extension that's causing the issue.

What other extensions are you using?
