Stuff:

  • Local AI Face Recognition: The Aqara Smart Video Doorbell G4 has a built-in local face algorithm, which allows rapid identification of individuals outside the door. Users can assign a name to a specific face and receive push notifications through the app or set unique automations* based on the person's identity. Even if the network connection is occasionally disrupted, the recognition function remains unaffected.

  • On-demand Video and Two-Way Talk: With the Aqara G4, you can easily answer the door from anywhere using your smartphone. Whether you’re at home or on the other side of the world, you can see and talk to visitors in real-time. The app sends a notification when a visitor arrives, allowing you to check the situation outside your door via video. Allowing you to converse, or simply check. The G4 is equipped with a 162° super wide-angle field of view, 1080p HD video, and a full glass (4 Glass) lens, providing clear and stable video quality. Moreover, the G4 is suitable for outdoor use, thanks to its high ambient temperature stability and IPX3 rating.

  • Battery and Wired 2-in-1: Giving you the flexibility of a wired or battery powered option, you can also wire the G4 to a transformer so that the batteries are only used in case of power outages. The G4 features a 6-battery pack that allows it to operate for up to 4 months****. The doorbell can be powered by detachable AA batteries and an external power supply of 12-24V AC or DC, ensuring it meets most installation requirements.
Personalized Custom Ringtones: This function allows you to upload personalized custom ringtones, which can be automatically configured to play on either the outdoor doorbell or indoor repeater. Additionally, the doorbell supports automatic linkage configuration, such as identifying strangers and broadcasting a message on the outdoor doorbell.

  • All-Round Compatibility: Doorbell G4 primary strength is the HomeKit Secure Video feature that enables video analysis and notifications to occur on Apple devices such as iPad, iPhone, and Apple TV. All data is encrypted before it's stored in Apple's iCloud***, ensuring further security. Additionally, the doorbell can integrate audio and video with Google and Alexa, allowing for interconnection.

It's decent. The only issue is camera field of view. If you keep it a eye level it doesn't cover the floor where parcels are kept. So you have to place it carefully.
Good for people who want homekit support and no cloud based subscription.

It's good as a doorbell but I wouldn't count on it as a security camera. HomeKit Secure Video is capped at 1080p which is waaaay off today standards unfortunately. The batteries are gonna last you somewhere between 1-2 months depending on the traffic. The motion activated recording is somewhat decent - there's a delay so depending on your setup it might not capture all events. I can't tell how it would work if it was hardwired as I haven't tried it.

I'm using HomePod 1 as a hub and it's relatively close to the chime and the doorbell itself so I haven't had any issues with connection, setup is super easy. I'd say for this price it's a good buy!

I have one of these, paid $200 from JB
I have it battery powered, I’ve changed them maybe three or four times since Feb 24. Alkalines and then more recently Eneloops.
Linked up to HomeKit, you get a chime from the USB powered hub and notifications to the home app and their native app too
There’s a delay from camera/motion recognition to actual recording (on HKSV anyway), so that I usually get a video of the postie’s face or them leaving a parcel but not their approach from the front gate.
Overall very happy. Reliable and I’ve never had to reset the device after power/wifi dropouts either.

  • Got one, thanks, OP.
Was considering the Tapo one but this is cheaper and integrated with Home Kit.
My old NVR only supports 2 IP cameras (which are already taken) so it's a good alternative.

  • New model coming soon https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0F6CJF9M9?ref=cm_sw_r_cso_cp_apin…

Main selling point of the new one for me is:

More Accurate Motion Detection with mmWave Radar: The advanced mmWave radar detects human presence with greater accuracy than traditional PIR sensors. Get smarter alerts without false triggers from pets, wind, or moving shadows, for a more secure and efficient door camera.

This is a great budget door bell imo, the homekit integration is great if you're already in that ecosystem. Doorbell chime can be any sound recording you have which is neat, and they really take care of you with all the accessories like angle mounting, screw driver, batteries, etc… My only issue is that there seems to be a delay about 1-2 seconds when detecting motion, and the time is incorrect about an hour slower than real time on app, but on the Apple home app it's sync correctly so aqara need to fix that. Lastly, if you plan to connect to Google home and alexa you might have trouble because the integration is absolutely awful. I can't seem to view the cameras on Google home and Alexa won't pair. Anyways, Apple home kit is the main thing I care about and from my knowledge this is one of the only battery smart home door bells with Apple home kit integration, all the others are hard wired.

    • I owned this for a year, and the 1-2 second delay is diabolical. And it also does this awful thing where it only records in 6 or 12 second increments (or something like that). And getting notified of a door ring takes ages.

Conversely, the implementation by the EUFY software with EUFY doorbells is so much better. I would not touch this doorbell, the software absolutely sucks. Get a C30 EUFY instead. I absolutely love it (no homebase needed either, you just get notified on your phone): https://www.eufy.com/au/products/eufy-video-doorbell-c30-1?r…
