MYOB AO Server Requirements - Hardware

My client is looking to set up a(n) MYOB AO Server for 2 remote Laptop connections.

Thanks to @MYOB AO for a starting point on this discussion.

They have been recommended the following system.
CPU - Intel Core i7 14700
CPU Cooler - Thermalright Assassin X 120 Refined SE CPU Cooler
Motherboard - ASUS Prime B760M-A WiFi Motherboard
Memory - Kingston Fury Beast 32GB 6000MHz (2x16GB) DDR5
SSD - Kingston NV3 2TB M.2 SSD
Power Supply - Silverstone Essential 550W Bronze ATX Power Supply
Software - Microsoft Windows 11 Home OEI

Does anyone see a reason that this would not work??

Thanks in advance.

  • It will work from a computer hardware perspective. It’s the networking you will need to worry about. Be very careful about directly exposing things to the internet particularly if they contain personal or financial information.

    • Thanks - I will not be accessing the system - just assisting in the procurement of the Hardware.

If you need to ask in a bargain forum I would recommend bowing out on this one. There’s too much that can go wrong and the consequences of mistakes are too severe.

        • Not necessarily from a bargain point of view - but OzBargain does attract a broad cross section of the community - so it attracts the discussion that are not always available. Even supplying specs to PC suppliers often results in a very vague response - they do not want to commit and then have the system not work.

As with everything - All Care but No Reponsibility.

@Sainter Dad: From a pure compute perspective I would be shocked an appalled if what you have listed won't handle the server software. However, you will need to ensure either a static IP or some kind of tunnel solution (like cloudflare tunnels) to expose the required ports to the internet. You'll likely want a reverse proxy in front as well to terminate TLS. If your client doesn't know about all that stuff then they are about to walk into a world of hurt. Other option is to keep it all on the local network and access via a VPN solution like Tailscale.

Just put it in the cloud and not worry about the hardware. MYOB can supply a list of service providers.

To answer your original question then, yes it will work. It's massive overkill though and you can down spec all the components without issue.

Edit, you should really be using a proper server/workstation over a desktop. At least set up raid 1 so that data is safe if the drive fails and you don't need to rely on the last backup.

        • Thank you - I will suggest that to them.

          Which Server would you suggest?

          • @Sainter Dad: Dell or Lenovo will be a good option. The warranty and availability of parts is important.

The exact model will depend on the budget.

  • Wow MYOB AO? Not Even AE or XPM?

Will just ledger info be saved? If it will be used for file storage, you will run out of space quickly depending on what records are provided by clients.
