it's not easy building people's dreams.

Are these people who have clearly defamed the company without merit or people who have owned BYD cars, had troubles with the car and/or the company, then posted negative comments online?

    • Not sure? Check out Aust review sites and take some screen shots as a record. See if they vanish over time. I bet they don't

Looking fwd to Media Watch doing a story on the shit the Trump crew and big tech are manipulating. Including when they bully Australia into falling into line with internet news and laws to suit the Trump agenda.Which is perpetuating lies and division for power and personal wealth. He & Mental Yahoo reaffirmed at the WH that they sill want to empty Gaza and develop it. Watch as the Saudi Arabia falls into line with this plan.
As if multiple big corporations aren't doing this sort of stuff all the time.
Where do I put my DYD positive review? I need the cash? (PS do I need to own or have driven one?)

Also making influencers cough up $$$? LOL. Bring it.

EDIT After watching this YTV I have no problem with BYD seeking to track down misinformation in China (or anywhere really) The slant of this story on MW should be more seen as how sleazy the 2 guys in Straya are. I'll bet MW doesn't suss out how many other car brands these and other Aust car reviewers have taken cash for comment, if this is even what they did here. This shows most influencers lack integrity, but who was oblivious to that?

It sounds like your all for censorship , freedom of speech means you tolerate/listen to other people's ideas , even if you don't like or agree with their views . Got it ⁉️

      • It sounds more like a beat up. For a start they headline makes it sound like reviewers are being pursued.Whereas any evidence here in Straya? Nope, just a couple of sold out compromised $$$ chasing reviewers yet to step up and explain the price they sold out for. I see more whinges about the services, car yards, reps etc than the car or the company. I honestly see no problem with a company paying for evidence of disinformation / misinformation that harms their brand. The way the thread title says "identifying" critics in inverted commas is sensationalising the guts of the story. I'm pretty comfortable knowing that if any car maker starts churning out lemons, the court of public "bad gobbering" will bring them undone. The good thing this story/report has done is expose how FoS influencers are. And if ppl rely on oneDHs opinion on a big investment like a car, without other due diligence, they were halfway to failure anyway. Further if BYD cars reviewed by these reviewers turn out to fail due to a deliberate lie in their review, perhaps the victism should sue via class action. The best part about that, is that it might re-calibrate the shit these paid for comment effluencers regurgitate and the adjust the perceived veracity the public place in their words. This report is about 5% about freedom of speech and 95%% about advertising spin.

        • And who would think out of all places , this forum seems to be pro companies , talk about saving a few dollars and whinging about nefarious activities of corporations. Am I looking at this the right way ?

        • Sounds like a beat up??? These two journalists used their Media Companies to charge BYD a fee to created reviews and content for them, then present the same media as a review for Carsales.

These two journalists should now never work again in the industry as their words cannot be trusted.

@does it matter: I agree with the part about the journos. But as others have said, this is common. Cash for comment, ring a bell? Ever watched youtubers around car repairs and product reviews?

However I see more faceless fed agents in the USA sweeping ppl off the streets with no due process for having the wrong surname. I have not seen anything yet to indicate BYD has gone after anyone here for a bad review, or (if you listen to what MW claims) why we should care that BYD is chasing down dishonest claims in reviews.
If we are talking about integrity in journalism, generally, I think it's becoming a rare commodity. Social media doesn't help.Big tech bros amplify the lies.Imagine what is filtered inward, and ejected outward to suit the agenda.
I'd like to know how much the 2 journos, or anyone else, were paid in this instance. Who knows it might change behaviour. But which way?

      DYD - destroy your dreams?

I’ve reported you to the BYD tip line.

I'd make a fake review for money. It's pretty tame as far as corruption goes, it's not even against the law.

    • -2

Would you agree with me that BYD is by far the best car on the market today?
      (ka-ching)

      Your turn

    • Would you post a fakw negative review for a competitor for money?

      • That would be illegal. Funny that lying about competitors being bad is illegal, but lying about a company being good is not.

  • Media Watch has really fallen off the last couple of years. Every car company monitors their online reviews, sends cease and desist or takedown notices for defamation, and pays/incentivises journalists and influencers for reviews. All motoring journalists and influencers are paid shills and their reviews are worthless.

Ive not watched media watch for a few years. IMO it doesnt need to be terribly hard hitting. Its just a good reminder to not take everything you see in the media at face value.

  • +3

Fairly tame accusations, basically the same schtick as others. Paid promotion dressed up as journalism 'scandals'. Be interesting to see what Tesla does behind the scenes.

  • +8

Wait till you hear how all other car makers treat reviewers…

Why do you think that most review websites give almost all cars identical review scores. Every car gets between 70 to 80% scores and almost no scathing comments, no matter how bad these cars are.

Reviewers are so shit scared of manufacturers pulling their loan cars and long term cars or cutting them off from their ad revenue dollars.

It’s the same reason that some random shit car from a crap manufacturer can win “COTY” gongs, even though it’s a dog box. Throw enough money and threaten enough ad revenue removal, and all of a sudden, you’re COTY material.

This not a BYD indicative thing, this is a systemic automotive industry status quo.

    • How soon we forget the VW scam.. Sadly only 'Chi-a-na is worthy of such universal condemnation.
      (Enter Cold Play background music)

      • -2

What was the scam? The reason why VW cars were so well reviewed through the 2010s was because they were far and wide the best mainstream new cars on the market.

Note I said new cars. Reviewers don't know how reliable something it's going to be after driving it around for a week or two.

        • +2

They doctored their emissions figures. It was a global scandal. Maybe before you were born?

          • -1

@Protractor: Didn’t make it a bad product. The owner got a powerful, efficient vehicle.

Not so good for everyone else.

            • +2

@tp0: It was a deception,A lie.A a scam. They made millions selling a lie to customers wanting the spin to match the sales pitch and VWs legal obligations. You completely missed the big picture crime. I hope you don't have kids. They are 'the everyone else'.

    • +2

Yep. Try to point out failures (including pictures) with a Patriot Camper on Social Media and see how long it lasts lol.

      • Tell me more. Is that the same ppl who used to have a TV show where an extended family did off road stuff? I think QLD based company/

  • +1

Not surprised. Owned a BYD Atto 3, it's alright but as someone who has dismantled cars and reassembled them…..yeah that's why you buy them on novated leases.

The shills don't want you to know too much though.

    • This week I wish I was playing overdone word bingo. I've read shill 14 times in 48 hours, across a half a dozen posts.

    • In your opinion, is the car built to just last till the end of warranty?

  • +2

lol go investigate the whole of carexpert coz they seem to give every car the same rating

    • +2

Yeah - $2mil in revenue for June for a website that reviews cars… nothing suss.

      • Yup all dodgy money, just like the manufacturers they support.

  • Valid reviewers and reviews?

A bad review can be given "hours" after owning a XYZ branded car. Justifiable perhaps because that XYZ branded car stopped. And it only means that for that one vehicle.

A good review can only be given after many many years of using an XYZ branded car. And it is representative of all other many vehicles.

    Anything else is garbage.

  • How did defamation get into this? Defamation turns on causing harm to someone's reputation.
