TCL 85-inch P7K QLED 4K Google TV

Looking for some advise.

I recently made payment $1655 for TCL 85-inch P7K QLED 4K Google TV including delivery, scheduled for delivery end of this month. But I have noticed there were other TVs on better deal which are expired now. Initially I wanted to purchase TCL C745 pro but its OOS.

Is this TV good? I'm confused if I should go ahead with this purchase or cancel and look for other deals. By budget is around 2k for 85inch.

I'm also getting Sony XR85X90L (Seconds) on ebay for similar price. It has 1 year warranty compared to TCL 3 years.

Thanks.

    C7 85" is $2400 at Costco.

    • It's OOS

TCL just as good as any Panaphonic or Sorny TV.

    • I don't have brand preference, I like TCL. I'm more into TV specification and better features.

Here is the main thing no one mentioned yet. Cheaper TVs in a brand's range (Sony, Samsung, TCL, Hisense, etc) use edge lit panels. Meaning, the LEDs are sitting on the edges of the panel and shooting light in. As you go higher in the range you get what we call FALD (Full Array Local Dimming) or more commonly named now mini-led.

On edge-lit TVs, the LEDs are always on, making blacks appear grey. FALD TVs cover the entire back of the panel with zones that can turn on and off individually, making contrast insanely better. As far as I can tell (no reviews and not mentioned on the TCL website) the P7K is edge lit. C7K and C8K are mini-led. I would 10000% pay extra to go to mini-led. Especially as the TV gets bigger, the grey blacks become more obvious on edge-lit panels.

Again each brand have both the cheap edge lit ones and the expensive FALD ones, same as you can buy top of the range Mazda vs base model BMW, you can't just judge by the brand name

    • Thanks so much for detailed information. Do you suggest going for Sony XR85X90L compared to TCL P7K?

the Sony is definitely a FALD tv (Review: https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/sony/x90l-x90cl) and will be much better than the P7K in every way possible.

If you're happy risking the warranty, go for it, otherwise I would save a bit more for the C7K

Really appreciate your help. I will cancel my P7k and wait for C7K or go with Sony. Thank you!

          • @scyther: Update: I ended up purchasing C7K. When I called good guys to cancel the order, they price matched the Costco price and got C7K for $2380 with delivery.
