No Signal Bars After Porting to Kogan

just activated my Kogan Mobile SIM and successfully ported my number. The activation process went smoothly, and I received confirmation emails stating that everything was set up. However, my phone doesn't display any signal bars, and I can't do anything

I've tried restarting the phone, reinserting the SIM card, and testing it in multiple phones. I also contacted Kogan Mobile support, and they assured me that the SIM is active and the porting was successful, go thought those things as reset or reinserting. They suggested wait as escalate to technical team..

Has anyone else experienced a similar issue with Kogan Mobile after activation and porting?

Kogan uses Vodafone. Do you know how good Vodafone reception is in your area?

    • basically no bars or no signal at all..use kogan for long time but this time seems sims card or something, potential old sim card?

So Vodafone gets no bars OR no signal (isn't that the same thing?) in your area yet you've used Kogan for a long time but this time the SIM card is at fault?

        None of that makes sense.

If the sim is active you should be able to use wifi calling when there is no reception. If that’s not working i would think there is a problem with the port or a faulty SIM card.

  • If you believe the Sim is faulty because you have had service on Kogan/Vodafone before, buy a $2 Kogan Sim and do a lost/damaged Sim on their web site. You won't lose your number. You may find 7-Eleven shops may keep these cards.
If you don't have any luck with Kogan ( and support is good ), mention the telecommunications ombudsman will be your next call.

      • I always insert the SIM and detect the signal before port number onto it. I got the bite before.

For an online only Telco, this step is particularly important as the issue usually can not be solved on the same day.

        • Yes, it’s the SIM that couldn’t be detected. I told them I already have another SIM, and it able to be detected and shows signal bars as i tested but unactivated sims. I made the request as they suggested, and now I’m waiting for them to transfer my service to that new SIM.

          • @apokalypsez: I would say the chance of it is really slim. To minimise the procedures, for Optus and Telstra SIM, I usually swap out the SIM right after get the code. If the new SIM does not pick up the signal, I do not proceed with the activation. For Vodafone SIM, you have to complete the activation before respond to the code. Just test it beforehand.

            • @Neoika: Yeh..have to wait for the text and transfer numbers. Called them minutes ago. Kogan is awful and can't blame on anything due to cheap.

        • Thanks didnt know this

Is there a guide for this?

I believe in the past they said dont switch sims until the port was successful or something along those lines

          • @ATTS: Use dual SIM slot or spare phone to detect. An unactivated SIM can pick up the network signal.

Obviously, a company may not disclose the faulty rate of its products, just assume zero chance to start with.

In practice, once code is received or reponded, old SIM is set to gone in 99% cases.

            • @Neoika: Oh gotcha.

Put the new sim in spare phone/ dual sim

And leave old sim in current phone until porting finalised

    • Now have to wait for their text to verify if so that I can transfer to new sims..

  • who did you port FROM?

is your sim turned around the correct way in the tray?

    • Oh didnt they have grooves to prevent inserting wrong way
