Nobody is paying $8.50 for these.
Yep, it's the Kathmandu of chocolate.
Obviously. It’s on “special” for $6.00 at Woolworths this week so this is still a great price.
Meanwhile, Coles has Cadbury bars at '60% off' for $1.20…ie it's a tactic to jack up the normal price. The big supermarkets are criminals.
I remember when they were $3 without discount. Wasn't even 7 years ago.
Covid truly made prices of everything so skewed.
Are most people just eating 2 squares?
When i open i tend to eat tge whole in 1 go
Oh. Just found out they now offer 100% pure dark chocolate O_O https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B08BHS34R7/
That must be bitter bitter :D
I love these. From memory was it only 98%
No Chilli on sale unfortunately. The waistline is thankful though
Wanted to buy the Chilli at Coles a few days ago, and it wasn't there. Not even a tag for it on the shelf. The other Lindt varieties were all half off too (but that ended yesterday).
Have a try of the Moser Roth Chilli variant from Aldi if you've not done so already.
I found that to be much nicer personally, and cheaper too.
Smoother and a little spicier, it's really niceThanks! Will be on the lookout for it.
Just add chilli flakes 😅
I dunno, that sounds like a loooot of work..
Used to love these until I read about the heavy metals controversy
Huh
https://www.consumerreports.org/health/food-safety/lead-and-…
If you Google "lindt heavy metals" you get a lot more information. It was pretty disappointing, but like below commenter said, it's probably better for me overall now that I'm avoiding it
FFS, is there anything thats not killing us out there
@Scalding Coffee Cup: im pretty sure they can just attach a nuclear bomb on one and divert it if need arises
@botchie: Well, anything processed is a massive profit driver, so of course profit is the #1 concern
this is not the Australian made stuff from the factory in Sydney though?
"To determine the risk posed by the chocolates in CR’s test, we used California's maximum allowable dose level (MADL) for lead (0.5 micrograms) and cadmium (4.1mcg)", which I believe are for daily total intake.
Those levels are kinda low. In comparison, tuna samples can have mercury, cadmium, and lead at 0.24 ± 0.14, 0.03 ± 0.03, and 0.05 ± 0.05 mg kg−1 (wet weight), respectively (https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7393419/). Note 1 mg = 1000 mcg.
This 70% variety, for example, has about 0.25 mcg of lead in 100g, or 2.5 mcg per kg (vs 240 mcg per kg of wet tuna). Its cadmium level is about 48 mcg per kg (vs 30 mcg per kg of wet tuna).
If I have 50g of this chocolate per day (already too much chocolate for me), I'd be taking only 0.13 mcg of lead and 2.4 mcg of cadmium.
Same… Oh well, it's probably better for my health, wallet, and waistline to avoid these altogether
I keep eating it to lower my IQ
Thanks OP!
No Dubai inspired selection 😔
too expensive..
Well, it's actual chocolate, not brownish sugar like Cadburys, Whittakers, etc..
Whittaker's Dark Ghana is much better than Lindt's 70%
Yes, well, it's over 50 per cent carbs v 34 per cent, so that's why most people are gonna say that
@mickeyjuiceman: well yeah, I'm eating chocolate for the flavour, not because I'm on a chocolate diet
How does the subscribe and save work? Will I keep getting it for that price?
No it will tell you if the price has changed when your next subscription is due
What?! Whittakers block chocolates are superior to this. Lindt wins in the balls department but falls flat in blocks compared to Whittakers
I remember when these used to be $4 full price, and $2 on sale. Surely prices for food haven't doubled since COVID?
Price of cocoa has skyrocketed
It actually dropped from 12500USD/T in December to under 8000USD/T in July.
Thank goodness for that, but still 3 or 4 times the price of a few years ago
Cocoa Price Overview (USD per metric ton)
| Year | Approx. Avg. Price | Notes |
| 2019 | ~$2,400–$2,600 | Stable supply, moderate demand |
| 2020 | ~$2,300–$2,500 | COVID-19 disruptions, lower demand |
| 2021 | ~$2,500–$2,700 | Recovery begins, slight uptick |
| 2022 | ~$2,600–$2,800 | Weather issues in West Africa |
| 2023 | ~$3,280/kg | Equivalent to ~$3,280/tonne |
| 2024 | ~$4,000–$6,000 | Prices begin surging due to crop disease and supply chain issues |
| 2025 | ~$7,900–$8,200 | Record highs driven by shortages, smuggling, and delayed deliveries |@mickeyjuiceman: 'smuggling'
So when they talk about 200kg coke, they actually meant Lindt chocolate bars??
@mickeyjuiceman: The sheer stupidity of downvoting "things I don't like to read" in here is extraordinary (and hilarious, if somewhat scary about the general stupidity in the country)
@mickeyjuiceman: So explain why Lindts profit continues to rise.
Let's not pretend like they're "just" passing the cost of the underlying goods onto us. That's the old colesworth playbook and it doesn't work when you see they made 9.2% more profit than the previous year recently.
@coffeeinmyveins: I think you replied to the wrong person, given I said NOTHING about profits or anything approaching that.
I feel Lindt is no longer as good as it used to be
Nothing is. A door handle / knob from 100 years ago would still function today as good as new. A door knob from Bunnnings for $30 will last 5 years before it starts to get crunchy and loose. When you look at the 100 year old door knob that would have cost $2, the sheer amount of raw materials like copper and brass in solid form vs a Bunnings $30 knob which has cheap metals and alloys and ultra thin coated metals in vital moving parts is astounding. Nothing is designed to last now.
Whittaker's is cheaper per 100g at Woolworths this week, and is better quality chocolate
Agreed.
I like the 90% dark choc, which Whittakers don't make right?
Amazon is wild, just tried ordering one of each. All except for 85% will be delivered to my address. So random!
Is ultimate dark edible?
Very bitter, I like it but not what I'd classify as a sweet treat
Up to 90% is fine, 95% gets that slight overpowering bitter taste.
I stop at 90%
70% the sweet spot for me
I find 70% still on the sweet side. 85 - 90% is perfect for my taste buds
Bought the vanilla recently and it tasted like absolute vomit, no vanilla flavour at all.
Emailed them and they didn't want to hear it. Never buying lindt again.
good 4 u
Yeah I bought the vanilla and hated it too. Really artificial vanilla flavour, like eating a car air freshener 🤢
I don't know why, but somehow it just doesn't work. I won't be buying vanilla flavour again
Can't go wrong with this
got 12, thx OP
Remember when these were like 2 for $5 or something? I remember.
These prices have become a joke now. we've stopped buying lindt completely because of it.

Golden deal always hiding in the comments, thanks
OOS No dark orange and no dark mint! What a waste of time…
Ultimate dark 95% is 80g not 100g
Thanks OP got 4 of the 78% smooth dark
Dark mint temporarily OOS :((
Just a reminder that almost all chocolate is contaminated with lead and cadmium. https://www.asyousow.org/environmental-health/toxic-enforcem…
is there a way to see what chocolate isn't contaminated?
From the link above:
"Based on the results of our testing, which found 285 of the 469 chocolate products tested contain lead and/or cadmium above California’s MADLs, we filed legal notices with over 20 companies, including Trader Joe’s, Hershey’s, Mondelēz, Lindt, Whole Foods, Kroger, Godiva, See’s Candies, Mars, Theo Chocolate, Equal Exchange, Ghirardelli, and Chocolove, for failing to warn consumers that their chocolate products contain cadmium or lead, or both."From the list, mostly Dark Chocolate. Previously I read news about this too related with dark chocolate. So, milk chocolate and white chocolate maybe safer in general than dark chocolate …
Most cocoa plantations are contaminated with lead and cadmium due to mining, etc. Dark chocolate is inherently unsafe since it uses a larger amount of cocoa powder compared to milk chocolate.
Unfortunately, I don't have a reliable source on which chocolates aren't contaminated. Maybe try carob instead?
So, milk chocolate and white chocolate maybe safer in general than dark chocolate …
"Safer" in that they're mostly just expensive sugar…
Awesome chocolate. Great price considering the Woolworths regular price is $8.50 for the same block.
