Help Me Choose a Reliable Mobile Plan with Minimum Data Per Month

I'm retired and looking for a cheap and reliable mobile plan — 2GB per month, preferably prepaid annually. My main requirements are to keep my current mobile number and to have a small amount of data for when I'm out of the house — 2GB per month is usually enough. Thanks for any suggestion.

  • Sorry can't suggest any but as for data and prepaid for 12mnths, the smallest 60gb 12mnth prepaid plans all got axed a while back, you'll end up with a lot more data than you need.
If dual sim is an option, Amaysim have talk and text only(no data) $60 12mnths prepaid, you'd then need to find cheap data 12mnth sims.

    • Sorry. Just checked out Amaysim site but couldn't find the plan you mentioned. Perhaps they have revoved it?

I also saw it today, maybe only accessible to existing customers, it has no data though, just cheap reliable calls and texts.

Onepass is the cheapest pre paid I can see at 149 but that's only the first 12mnths.

You need to switch to that plan after you join and activate.

Just get a $10 sim, join the PAYG plan and right away switch to the $60 plan. It will require a $50 payment from you.

Pay As You Go from Aldi mobile. 365 days expiry .( my father use it when he was in nursing home.)

Aldi PAYG data is 6¢ per MB. OP wants 2GB per month. Ouch!

  • https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/898182 may suit you. $30 for 4GB up to 90 days (plus unlimited calls/texts). If you run out of data you can renew early.

Currently you can buy a $30 amaysim from officeworks for $10. When you activate it you need to add the credit to AS YOU GO first and then you will be able to buy the 90 day plan.

To save more money, you can buy 4 of those packs ($10x4 = $40) so 3 renewals will cost $30 instead of $90. But every time the plan ends or you run out of data, you have to port away and port back to amaysim. You can do this with a $2 sim from telstra but the $2 is wasted. Or you could get a $5 sim from ALDI which should last for a few days to a few weeks depending on how fast you use up the credit.

I solved this problem by using my phone for my internet access at home. It was cheaper than paying for having an internet service at home and paying again for a phone plan with only enough data for when I was out. The data on my phone plan, which would otherwise be wasted, provides the data I need at home.

At home the phone is a phone and an answering machine and an SMS receiving device, and it is tethered to a travel router for the internet access I need. I go out, I unplug the phone and take it with me. I get home I plug it back in, up pops a menu and I click on tether, and the tethering also charges it, which I would have had to do to recharge it anyway.

  • Gives you plenty data
Kogan Mobile Prepaid Voucher Code: SMALL (365 Days FLEX | 140GB)
    $150

  • Boost (Telstra) $240+ and Coles (Optus) $180+ both annual prepaid, I got mine for built in international dialing, so you may do much better.
Lots more data than you will need. I have family members who swap SIMS like poker cards, but its too hard for me

  • there's $30/9months with 4GB from amaysims…i thought about $60 plan 365 without data but add few data in..i for few packs that is on discount from woollies weeks ago, OP pretty much like one of my household very low data mostly needed for text and calls only and add data just for checking important stuff.

i thought of $60 365 day without data+$10 per Gb data… i had sim card add as credit to 2 numbers already and going to do same for house hold. I'm low data myself and this year have phone number only for data and sharing it with other household member through portable modem.
