Microsoft 365 Education Help

Hey guys
Have a issue here
Send my daughters laptop away to get repaired and it’s meant to be back for Qld school holidays re start but it’s not going to be I’ve been told today

So I thought I’d let her use my MacBook for the time being. Issue I have is that I don’t have Microsoft 365 on it and when I went to download the education version using her school log in it tells me the school as turned off access. I tried calling the school to see if anyone was there to help but they are closed which doesn’t help me trying to get this sorted by Monday

Does anyone know if the free Microsoft 365 version you can download will do for the time being until the school can put the eduction version on my MacBook or her laptop gets back after being repaired.

Any help would be great
Thanks

Microsoft 365 is free to use if you use it within the web browser.
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/microsoft-365/free-office-on…

However it is a simplified version, but it's good enough to do home work on while you wait for repairs and every document that was made in the paid version can be edited on with the free web app.

OneNote https://www.onenote.com/ is always free, for both desktop app and web app

  • They can only have one licence through the school.

The web version of the apps are always free

    • If that’s the case how would one get all this put on a new laptop of the day hard drive died or just a new laptop

      • If it is just the hard drive, the licence will activate successfully on the same laptop.
I think the education licenses are device specific.
They definitely are for the Education version of Windows which some schools require to use their network.

    • One license is not the same as installs (I work in IT for an Educational institution).

It is possible that different education departments have different policies in place though.

Also check the below locations OP:
      https://m365.cloud.microsoft/apps/
      https://portal.office.com/account/

My education tenant says "You can install Office on up to 5 PCs or Macs, 5 tablets, and 5 smartphones."

  • So the web version will work fine for now?

    • The alternative is to activate a 1 month trial of Office 365
      https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/microsoft-365/try

Since its free why not give it a shot. Remember to stop subscription otherwise you will be charged $179 after the trial finishes.

Note that you'll be asked to provide a method of payment so that there's no interruption in your service after 30 days. After the trial, Microsoft 365 Family is AU$179.00/year .

In most likelihood the web app is good enough, especially for kids just wanting to do home work and write notes.

    • The web version is good enough for most things. I've had to use desktop version occasionally, e.g. importing a PDF.

Wait until school starts, and you'll be able to install a local version.

According to this document "All Queensland state school teaching staff and students can download multiple free copies of the latest Microsoft Office 365 to their personal home computers and mobile devices."

    • Ok thanks

  • Simplest solution will be your daughter getting tech support from the school's Orange Card tech on Monday. They won't be the only one!

Assuming you've already signed her into the Company Portal app, that'll streamline the process.

    • Thanks for the reply
