(Ensure to click on "switch currency" if Australian dollars are shown, because Amazon's exchange rates are poor)

I couldn't find the same model for sale in Australia, but the Salter webpage had a couple of baby scales:

There were other cheaper alternatives on the market such as the one below but did not seem to offer a toddler conversion:

Real OzBargainers weigh their babies at the butcher shop

I'm trying to work out why anybody would buy this thing for personal use

Babies get weighed at the Chemist or the doctors, during the regular checkups. There is no point weighing them daily.

Toddlers can use a normal bathroom scale.

I agree. I was tempted to look into one of these as my daughter was 2.95kg at birth - that's 6 pounds 8 ounces. It was so hurtful how everyone kept saying on about how tiny she was. These were other mothers in my mothers group and baby professionals. It was very stressful at the time. That is exactly how much I weighed at birth and was much bigger than we feared she would be based on scans. When she was born, my then hubby and I looked at each other and said in unison, "She's SO big", to which everyone in the operating suite said, "No, she's not!"

Getting these scales will just make worried parents obsess on something they should not obsess about, providing that their baby is gaining some weight. As long as things are going in the right direction, everything will be okay.

Weigh your baby elsewhere and don't worry about it in between.

I agree, as a new dad I too looked into buying a set of scales so we could monitor at home. Although they would of been very convenient I most likely would of weighed my daughter 24 times a day if I had.
The local chemist has them so we just went over once a week on an evening when they were quiet. Turns out my daughter is a little porker and drinks like a sailor but to begin with I was still worried she wasn't getting back to birth weight quick enough. If she was born tiny and wasn't feeding well I would of probably bought these.

or use the Salter luggage scale (only $12) from a previous deal LOL

or do some basic maths and weigh themselves on regular scales with and without holding the baby…
accurate enough for basic weight tracking

Doesn't quite cut it with a newborn. Your looking at grams at this stage and I don't know of any bathroom scales that are acurate to the gram.

        • If you need to know the weight to the gram then you either neurotic or should be constantly visiting a midwife/doctor/nurse etc..

Most home scales would be accurate between 0.1 or 0.01kg depending on how fancy it is, which should be more than enough for basic weekly/fortnightly weight tracking to ensure your kid is actually moving in the right direction

Baby scales including delivery….Man they do everything for you these days. Wonder if they cover c-section?

  • Perfect for those not knowing exactly how much time it should be in the oven before it starts to dry out.

Also ideal when selling them based on a price per kilo

I wished I had one of this when my child was young. We wanted to know how much milk she had taken after feeding. We bought a postal scale but it didn't work very well. Good luck with the baby, OP.
