Sorry for the question but what is it exactly, a wifi upgrader? Just curious as I'm used to these things as a relay for a wireless mouse for instance, not being anything else.

This is a wifi adapter that adds wifi to a desktop PC or an old old laptop without built in wifi. Most laptops nowadays would have wifi, but most desktops may not.

Gotcha thank you! So if I had a "modern" laptop with wifi, this would be redundant?

    -Perfect for streaming and gaming

No. I have such thing, it's OK for average WiFi, but you can't expect strong signal from a USB dongle with no antenna, therefore distance is not too big. As for gaming, being in the next port to the dongle from keyboard it significantly interferes with it and worsens its signal too.

    • but you can't expect strong signal from a USB dongle with no antenna,

yes worth mentioning. I didn't know about this myself, but I chose to go with a WiFi card and double checked it fit in this random unused port inside the PC. I just checked think it's the smallest slot called X1. it was on sale for not much more, so chose it over a USB WiFi dongle.

I was cleaning it recently, and unscrewed the antennae at the back, just leaving the antennae base that it screws onto. I thought oh I don't have to screw that in just to "check the PC turns on before I put it back in it's usual place", well nope. in the same spot windows showed No networks. it couldn't find any networks. didn't realise such a big difference screwing on that antenna at the end of a 1m wire could make.

      • You will be even more surprised if you experiment with the antenna angle.
From another perspective, you can use USB extension cable to put the dongle closer to your router.

        • actually yes family member's computer is mounted below desk with one of those super short plastic antenna's that spins around and can change the angle.

it was originally facing up, before they mounted it. I experimented and facing directly down gets the same strong reception!

Some may want to note that this adapter only supports USB 2.0.
Might be worth getting if you have $10 JB voucher and you want to upgrade a device without 802.11ac or 5GHz

Thanks, cancelled after knowing it’s usb 2.0.

      From ChatGPT:

      Scenario
      USB 2.0 Limitation Relevant?
      Internet downloads (e.g., 100 Mbps)
      ❌ Not a bottleneck

LAN file transfers at 600+ Mbps
✅ Yes, USB 2.0 will limit speeds

      Video streaming, gaming, usual tasks
      ❌ You’ll be fine

Got something similar from ebay with some antennas and they have been performing great granting my office is about 5 metres away from the router

I bought a generic Comfast adapter very popular in this forum at Ali Express for around in $3 in 2019 and it still works fine

    • Ah yes, I remember those ComFast adapters. Bought couples of them for around $1-2 during Covid days to upgraded some of my Linux PCs.

  • I bought one for the same price off sale 3 months ago :D. This is normal price.

  • bro this is absolutely not worth it, how is the RRP $69????
you can buy this exact same thing from aliexpress for tree fiddy (slightly exaggerated for the memes).

    • Yes, bought few of those Fenvi brands wifi 6 for around $15 and been rock solid

  • I have had a positive experience with this https://www.amazon.com.au/Adapter-%EF%BC%88AC1200-867Mbps-WP…
on my kids pc's. They haven't whinged at me about the speed once for the budget builds/online experience (roblox/fortnite) yet

It's $18 on prime day sale atm.
