  • My car bonnet, top and boot top are a bit dull. Tried the ultimate compound then polish, still no difference. Any idea ?

    • How did you apply compound and polish?

      • By hand

        • Did you use a clay bar beforehand? That should make a difference. I've never used a seperate polish - just the ultimate compound. I assume the cloth you used to apply it changed colour? (eg) If white to start with & you have a red car, cloth should go somewhat red (indicating it's removing a bit of paint).
This combo has worked well for me (10+ year old car but always garaged)

          • @theredrabitt: Oh ok, I have to ensure the cloth will be coloured as my car's

            • @yht: No. There is a clear coat on top, which gives the car its shine. We cut and polish the clear layer.

If you're getting colour on the pad that means you completely removed the top layer.

          • @theredrabitt: claybar still worth trying for a 20 yr old car parked outside?

        • +1

Claybar is to clean the surface of the paint before polishing.
if paint condition is bad, try a polisher, 30sec of polisher passes = hrs of your elbow grease
if by dull u mean clear coat is peeled, no compound/polish would bring it back
if paint color transferred to the cloth, its too far gone

          • @aBitTooEasy: The paint is dull, but if I see from another angle, the paint not dull. I can still see the metallic shine. From the other side angle, it is dull. Unsure if the clear coat is peeled or not

      • Can't polish a turd, likely clear coat paint problem to get a shine

The Bowden's Claying Rubber Pad makes the job of claying your car so much easier and more efficient, especially when combined with their 'Three Way' product. Not far off this price when on sale (but BYO/DIY lube)

    • i use a claying pad, they are great, claims to be able to be used 30 times, i only use once a year so doubt i will wear out the pad, think the pad will break down and perish first.

  • it’s 30$ for me.

    • Same, seeing $30 for the clay kit.

Please watch at least 1 hours worth of YouTube videos before using these products. You can easily make your paint look worse if you don't know how to properly use these. Car needs to be squeaky clean before you clay bar it, otherwise you'll just drag dirt back and forth across your paint.
