Laptop Recomendation for Oblivion Remaster/Bladurs Gate 3/Newer Doom Games

My Step Dad is 70. He recently had open heart surgery and can no longer work (carpenter) or go to the gym like he was (was still body building).

He used to love playing the original Oblivion, so I think he'd love to play the new remaster as well as something like Baldurs Gate 3. Other favourites back in the day were Quake 4 and Doom 3. Actually I even remember him playing games like Avatar IX: Ascension and Requiem: Avenging Angel.

He hasn't gamed in over ten years but I think he'd like to get back into it.

What laptop would you recommend in around the 2.5 to 3.5k range that would play these? He mostly sits on the lounge with a 'stable table' type thing with room for mouse with his current work laptop.

I am thinking along the lines of a 16" screen for size. The screen doesn't need to be amazing. I'd rather the money be put into graphics/ram/cpu for performance as he won't notice super high refresh rate or nits/contrast etc.

I do have access to JB Hifi Defence/Gov portal if it helps.

Thanks for your assitance. I haven’t bought a laptop in 10 years as I'm a desktop gamer (still rocking 3080ti with ryzen 5900x for my desktop)

Considered a console plugged into the TV instead? Plug and play, no fuss.

I did consider that. But I can't see him being able to work out how to use a console layout or controller for that matter for the first time at 70 years of age

You probably don’t need to spend that much. I think any laptop with 4060/4070/5060 or 5070 should do the job, essentially if you’re aiming around 1080p resolution.

Keep an eye out for gaming laptops posted here on ozbargain

If you’re set on the budget then I would recommend checking out the Lenovo outlet for a refurbished Legion.

    • My last few laptops were Metabox, but I don't see much mention of them anymore. Did their quality drop?

I’ve not had experience with Metabox so can’t comment on their quality
