      Nutrition 😂

Kinda stupid list 16 vs 17 vs 18 grams of fat doesn't matter, they are all fundamentally the same thing, oily wheat noodles with lots of salt and seasoning.

They all aren't healthy as a staple and are all high calorie for the volume.

Interesting article! These healthy ones are also half price: https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/755561/mag…

Reading that article is depressing if you are an instant noodle afficiado - they are ALL BAD.

High in bad fat (palm oil)
      Ultra processed
      High in sodium
      Low nutritional value

      Sigh.

I'm baffled that anyone would need this article to tell them any of those points

      • most, if not all processed foods are fairly bad for your health. They take cheap ingredients, add sufficient flavouring and processing to make them taste good, and preservatives to make them last. They're the opposite of fresh food.

Just have them as a treat once in a while, rather than making them a staple.

Making fresh noodles from wheat flour is quite easy, even by hand (even easier with a standmixer). Make that the staple noodle.

      • Yes all correct, and MSG aka high in sodium.

I don't think anyone believes for a second that instant noodles are health foods, they are pretty addictive though, once you're used to salty fatty foods.

They should really be an occasional food.

Ps. I can't remember the last time they were half price, probably pre-covid.

A few brands tried to make healthy instant noodles. They've all failed

      • fat, salt, carbs are the holy trinity of food and flavour.

you can up the nutritional value with higher protein ingredients but its no longer going to be cheap or cheerful.

    • Surprise anyone spends so much time to write a useless article
Or am I just delusional and some people actually thought instant noodles were healthy Well rounded meal?

I eat them because its a $1 meal instead of a $18 one at a food court

    • Each pack costs more than an egg. A healthier and cheaper option is a high quality loaf of bread - both go well with eggs.

    • Just a note on the nutrition, its honestly just fear mongering media as usual. They aren't that bad for $1 a serving and is perfectly fine in moderation. The sodium content is way off the charts because its for the entire noodles, broth included, which, most people dont drink the entirety of.

They also contain a small amounts of vitamin B2 (that's why the noodles are yellow, not white), iron, calcium, potassium etc because in Korea, instant noodles are eaten as a meal replacement by the poor who cant afford to eat proper meals, and realised they could put in just enough to make it so that people can eat this on every meal (although you really shouldnt if you can afford to).

Unless you believe you deserve a gourmet, organic, healthy, nutritionally perfect meal for $1….

Its been decades and there still isn't strong evidnence that MSG is unhealthy. Media nutritionists are a bit useless.

If you live near an Asian Grocer, check to see if they have them on clearance due to short dates.

There has been a few already posted on OzBargain.

  • Asian grocers are mostly always this price, or cheaper.

$3 each in Carlingford, shortdated but does it matter?
