Will this work as a standalone device for calls , messages and tracking ? In search for a kids watch that can do this.
It is an LTE model. It can do calls and messages independently.
Also don't forget to check with your mobile service provider, not all plans have LTE on devices other than your mobile, ie Telstra prepaid.
Lebara is a good option if you want to use the watch as a standaloneconnection.
Belong does support watches, so I purchased a $5 pay as you go with Lebara.
battery was great at the start, but turning all the features and vibrations on took a toll on it, from 1.5-2 day battery life, it went down to 0.75 of a day.
but still, prolly one of the longest lasting smartwatches there, so yes, it'll be great for your needs, just care for the battery heaps (don't let it hit 0%, etc etc)
also, Tangerie was my mobile provider who's on Telstra's network but doesn't cost an arm and leg. I'm assuming a good reception would be more future proof
The battery on my Huawei GT3 Pro lasts a week or more
Yep amazfit battery is amazing too
My Garmin Instinct 3 Amoled (50mm) lasts over 27 days. How's the Garmin any different from the Samsung and Amazfits?
I've had 2 Samsung watches and have been let down by the rubbish battery life. I can't go for a run in the morning, and have it last til the end of the day without a mid day charge, which at the start i was happy to forgive. After a few months, the watch giving out before the end of the day has become a running joke with my wife/kids. Even without a run, if I happen to go out for drinks after work, it's usually dead before I get home that night.
I'm considering getting a Huawei GT Pro. Almost 2 weeks battery life with an AMOLED screen. Titanium body and sapphire screen.
It has its drawbacks but it's looking mighty tempting…
Ditto… I would never buy a Samsung watch again for its terrible battery life - cant' even last a day.
You should all get a Galaxy Fit 3 when it's on special ($70 ish). Does almost all the main functions of a Galaxy watch except calls, pay and GPS, and the battery lasts 1-2 weeks.
@Morven: GPS is a major functionality for some people. Runs, treks etc. that's usually the battery hogger too. No one does it better than Garmin. They realized that in the last couple of years and have marked their prices up like crazy!
@Munki Kundi: I go for runs and bike rides with my Galaxy Fit 3. It tracks the exercise, but not the GPS movements. On a bicycle you've generally got your phone as well (or a Garmin etc) so in many contexts lack of GPS on the watch is not an issue. For many people the presence of GPS on the watch is really just an edge case that's not really worth all the extra money they're paying, and the battery life sacrifice. But yes, you're right.
What are the drawbacks?
@chalks1971: its quite lacking in apps apparently, no spotify or strava, among several other popular ones.
Also no NFC payments if that's important to you
I have a GT2 Pro and it's been great. No doubt the current Huaweis are even better.
my huawei gt2 pro is nearly 6 years old and still lasts 2 weeks between charges. if it had NFC enabled in australia, i'd never look at another watch.
Galaxy watxh 8 classic LTE is 360ish :/
Correct, pre-ordered the bluetooth version for under $300.
Codes stackathon that one!how?
Stack of discount vouchers. Some targeted, some obtained via sales chat on Samsung website.
*Code Starting with EBD or ET1 were targeted, previous year's codes also worked. 20% off
*UNFOLD2025 50% off
*Code Starting with W8 - additional $150 off when you have a trade-in device.
Utilizing above discounts will enable you to get the Galaxy Watch 8 classic (with a fabric band) for about $321Checkout this thread
following this, I just managed to get a a Watch8 for $259, with no trade-in (so I can still sell the one I have). Thank you!
@alterego13: they gave me a "loyalty voucher", which didn't matter if there was trade-in or not - my trade-in would save me $5 only (watch 4)
I added the code I had in my mailbox (Galaxy gift is here!), the a watch10 or something they have in the website displaying, the code I got from an expert when I complained about only $5 trade in, and the UNFOLD2025 - 4 vouchers stacked. It worked out 60 cheaper than my watch years ago
Dammit, bought 3 weeks ago from JB for $450
Free return within a month.
Only for unopened and unused
I've asked them when their price dropped (for something else) shortly after and they gave me a gift card with the difference. You can give that a go.
Rubbish battery and OS
Galaxy watch 8 Classic can be had for around $420 via the portal with voucher codes and $5 trade in. Just the squirrel look is holding me back from upgrading from the watch 5 pro.
How?
Oh no no. Just downvote like the clowns did to mine. Its on pre-order plus stack codes to bring it to as little as 320 and 360 for lte
No downvote from me, was a genuine question.
Meant squircle design, it's a shocker lol!
would you mind detailing what codes please? I'm looking now and can see the $899 model with $150 pre-order, and then up to $140 trade in… thats still more than 420
Edit: never mind with details, i found the other post.. and id deleted the email that Samsung sent last week. doh!
If there's a database of unused codes, please feel free to share! :)Use this if you have a trade in, extra $100 off for watch 8 classic or ultra, I just got it this morning.
W8T-XAXM-E2AS-HG48
And also add UNFOLD2025
thank you,i got it down to $375 and then noticed the watch strap mechanism isnt compatible with my older galaxy watch's strap that i bought on Etsy, so i think i'll pass for now anyway. Appreciate the help / share!
@Orangewarrior77: Hi orange if you don't mind, can you explain how you got down to 375? I've used the trade in code w8t- and the unfold 2025 and still can't get lower than 500
Id be buying this over Watch8. Theres nothing objectively better this year as its the same CPU as last year. I would also subjectively say the 7 design is better than the 8!
New sensing for antioxidants etc. for 100 bucks more and likely an extra year of software updates id say that's worth it.
Had this watch since July 2024. Was fine up until about a month ago. Now it thinks I'm asleep when I'm not. Have to go through the health app to delete sleep records frequently.
I think the issue is Samsung doing something itself. On the watch forums there are a number of people complaining that accuracy randomly changed a few months ago and data doesn't seem accurate anymore, with many theorizing a change in the algorithm they use.
They also removed skin temp reading and only showing a "variance" now and they removed the "typical range" for REM, Deep Sleep, light etc. Even though it clearly shows it advertised on their website still.
I've got the 4 classic and as of recently, I'm allegedly not falling asleep until 1am when I'm in bed b4 10pm. Strange.
Officeworks is online only. How to order with price match?
Via chat i think
could not find chat feature :(
i always call them up, they do it over the phone.
Not sure about the colour? What are the thoughts?
The dial is more Grey than Green (It's actually Dark Grey). I have one. Don't like the band? Swap it out with any watch band that has 20mm lugs, millions of bands to choose from.
Sorry for the repost, was meant to be as a standalone comment, not a reply:

Are google stuff blocked on it like the phones? We miss out some good tech due to this spy sht.
Yeah i'm pretty sure it misses out on all the google goodies, which I'm not sure I need with my watch…. But at the same time, might be one of those things that I end up wishing I had. It's not a cheap watch after all…
no NFC payments with the huawei watches in aus, unless something has changed.
Brain trust, suggest a budget watch with I can take calls on (Bluetooth) and don’t need to charge every day or at least last more than 1 day with a morning run. My ticwatch has made me realise the importance of good battery life.
I just bought the bluetooth version of this watch. The 40mm watch7 was just under $250 from the Samsung education store (with a $1 trade in) during the EOFY sales last month
Sure you cant go back in time, but expect it to be this price during the next round of sales which seem to be getting more regular.
Or buy the EU version today from Amazon for $245
I'm using a Garmin instinct 2 with 24 days battery life after using Samsung watch for years. I'm tempted by the new features, but I don't think I can go back to charging everyday..
Still rocking my watch 5 pro Bluetooth version 😎
Noooo just bought the non-lte version from officeworks for 290
How? Share the kungfu?
Any way to default Gpay on this yet? S Pay doesn't support my citi & hsbc cards, so I'm stuck on G.
My only use for a watch would be for payment w/o taking phone out.I don't use the health stuff much, and have gsuite so most of the rest of googs doesn't work for me (eg keep)
I have the 5 and wasn't able to enable the LTE from my pixel 8 pro phone. Had to temporarily pair the watch to a samsung phone, setup the lte, then repair to my Pixel (on vodafone). Does the 7 have the same issue? I really just want a watch I can run with in addition to my Garmin that will maintain a data connection & play some music over bluetooth that won't run out of battery on my run… This or are there any other suggestions? Only wear when running.
Does anyone know of any other carriers that allow phone/watch number sharing except for Telstra, Optus, Vodafone, More/Tangerine?
The big 3 are all expensive af and I’ve heard More/Tangerine have shocking customer service
You can try this method to use other carriers.
I use Amaysim on my watch and seems to work fine. Make sure you read through the whole thread for any caveats before you attempt it.
I’m looking for a legit plan to share my main number with my watch, but that’s a cool option, thanks.
Significant improvements over gw6?
