PS 5 Racing Wheel

Im chasing a steering wheel and peddles for a playstation 5. Ideally something like the G29 but at over $400 its a bit of a budget stretch. Its for my son who was gifted a PS5 and loves anything to do with cars but because of his disabilities a controller is a bit difficult for him. Ideally Im hoping for around the $200 mark

So wanted to see what is out there that might be suitable.

thank you for any suggestions

are you looking for one new? If not you should be able to get a g29 on facebook marketplace for around $200

  • I have a G29. I can sell it or look up in your local marketplace as there are plenty of people like me who used once and its been sitting in their cupboard. 😂

  • Buy used.

  • Thanks - I was thinking new as most in my area are asking 300 for second hand

The G29 does drop to ~$300 when on sale which is usually once or twice a year. Also check compatibility with games before you buy.

  • The wheel by itself is no good if you don’t have a decent chair you can lock into position and a table or stand suitable to hold the wheel steady. I have a wheel new in box I bought years ago. When I got it home I realised I don’t really have any place to set it up and I can’t afford a proper chair or stand for it and no room even if I did.

I used a G923 Logitech wheel and pedal set on a PS5 which I would say is great value for money. There is really no need for a hobbyist to spend any more that this. There are more expensive setups but this is where the value for money / experience curves peak and intersect. I used this for Sim Racing on Gran Turismo 5 and Assetto Corsa and had a blast every time I played. I recommend you pick one up on marketplace or something or wait till its on sale. G923 is newer than the G29.

    • What stand do you have it hooked up to?

Next Level Racing GT Lite (Black)

I got this because it was cheap and easily moved around so I could set it up in the lounge room on the big TV or in my computer room on a small monitor

Overall I am very happy with it.

My only complaint is the seat is not the most comfy.

The seat is good for about 2 hours after which you need to stand up and move around a bit and recharge.

But I'm also old so there is not a lot of seats that are comfy for me and I usually need to move around for everything.

I have used one of those full motion aluminum framed direct drive sim rigs before that cost $10k.

I got to use it for a few days as it was at a friends.

        They are very cool.

But my setup can be had for under $1000 second hand for everything.

I didn't think the experience was worth spending $5k to $10k on a full sim rig setup with direct drive and aluminum frame etc.

At that price I would just buy a nice car to drive around on the weekends or take to a track, like a corolla, civic, golf, 86 or something like that.

Because realistically most people who think they need a $10k rig will not become racing drivers in real life.

Just buy a nice little weekend car to enjoy and have fun in occasionally.

        • Thanks, was looking at the Playseat Challenge X - Logitech G Edition. Yours looks good too and I think cheaper.
