Centre speakers for Home Theatre?

I am looking for a centre speaker to go with my Pioneer VSX-521 amp from here http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/81301.

Anyone have any suggestions? I have had a look on eBay/Gumtree but am a bit clueless. What should I be looking for? I saw a brand called DB Dynamics but it seemed to be a budget line. Is there somewhere competitive with new prices? I am in Brissie.

Thanks

  • I recently got the Yamaha NS-C210 from the following shop. Cost me about $127 with shipping.

    • Thanks. That seems like the right ball park for price I was looking at. Are you happy with them?

      • I am not an audiophile but they sound good. Very happy with them. :-)

This would do nicely (have no idea who the ebay seller is). I use a wharfedale centre speaker (not this exact model), as well as wharfedale bookshelf speakers with my Pioneer amp, great sound.

    • Looks good as well. Shame there is no black left.

      • Yeah, but it'll sound good.

  • I don't have a specific suggestion - but a reminder on buying the center speaker…
Don't skimp on this one - you hear most of your dialogue from it so it's actually quite important.
Also often sounds pan across the front of the room - so it's important that the center have a similar sound sound to your front left+right speakers. It's very distracting when the center speaker is "brighter" than the sides - a sound panning across the front goes thin and crispy in the middle.
    Good luck in your chase!

    • Good point. Didn't place much emphasis on that in my OP. The wharfedales above look like good bang for buck. Will have to read some reviews first though.
