Cashrewards Not Recognising Accor Cashback Deal

Hi everyone,

I seldom post on here but I have tried to get this issue resolved and am hoping I will be able to get some assistance here from the ozb community. CR had a promo going for Accor members on 26 May plus minus couple of days where there was a special promo going on for bookings for 2 nights and above which gave a 20% discount on the booking (minus gst etc). However once I had made the booking, CR sent through the standard email saying cashback was on its way but the amount was way off. Instead of the special 20% it was just the standard 3.9%. I queried this with them repeatedly and they kept telling me that there was no such promo on the day even though I queried several times across different staff members and they all said records indicate there was no special running at the time. However, they said if I could show a snapshot of the special discount at the time they would be able to review it. I have tried to search around to see if there was way for me to snapshot what the website looked like at the time but to no avail. I just wanted to check on here perhaps if there was someone who knew of this deal or who may have even made a booking utilising this deal, it would be much appreciated if you could share your experience and help me out as the total sum was quite hefty and its a huge dent to the budget not getting the discounted cashback. Thank in advance everyone!

I have an e-mail from them on 26th showing "ALL Accor Live Limitless - Members only: 20% off, minimum stay of 2 nights 3.9% cashback Ends 27 May 11:59pm AEST. T&C apply."

Clicking the link doesn't show the T&Cs or further details but it looks to me that the 20% off would have been off the rate when booking, not an additional CB amount.

    • I was going to say. It is a typical way to advertise like this. OP even said 20% discount(not cashback) in the post.

        Sounds like OP stuffed up…

        • Ah ok so it was 20 discount. Ok I must have misread! Thank you so much for your assistance. I just needed someone to confirm this.

          • @jskf01: You're welcome…

Now you can sleep peacefully again.

With Accor, you are advised to read their T&C carefully as their choice of words can be really super misleading. I am not sure if this is a French thing but similar to this was a recent promotion about bonus 10 Status Nights (SC) but never did in their front promo page did they actually mention that it would only apply if you are using a "Corporate Rate" which is also not defined with proper clarity (eg: Is it Travel Agent's rate, is it business specific bilateral agreement like ANZ x Accor, etc).

As the result, all of us who took the deal did not get the extra SC and when I asked about it, they referred back to the T&C.

When Accor uses the word "Members" only, you can be a member in 3 ways (at least in Australia), the normal member which gives you 5% off their best rack rate, the paid additional IBIS Card (15%), and lastly, the paid additional Voyageur Card (15%-20% depending on hotel).

So this campaign basically gives normal members who normally would get 5% of rack rate, now it becomes 20% off rack rate (not another 20% on top of 5% normal member rate). It is NOT the cashrewards' 20% cashback.

So you're most likely to have received that 20% off the rack rate and get an additional 3.9% on top of it. I remember this campaign as well as I am not eligible due to the travel dates.

After this campaign, Cashrewards no longer awards 3.9% cashback and now I think it is 1.2%.

  • Tbf, it did sound like a discount from the start. The 3.9% cashback was just the standard CR rate at the time. Not sure why they expected 20% cashback unless they read it way too fast.
