Backpack Recommendations. Hiking and Cycle Commuting

My 20yo Camelback cycling backpack is on its last legs. I have a hiking trip coming up that will require a decent day pack for day duties. I'd like to use it for cycle commuting afterwards.

As I've been out of the loop for a long time would appreciate some tips on brands or things to look for, or places to buy.

I've had a look at anaconda - becasue they had a decent range of brands to view in person.

Things id like:
Between 20-30l size
Rain cover.
Bottle pockets on the side
Decent design to reduce a sweaty back
Waist and sternum straps.
Pocket for easy access to keys, currently on my waist band so i can get my keys without taking the pack off.
No need for a laptop.
Cost under $150.

So far these seem to fit the bill without smashing the budget.

Decathlon might also be worth a look https://www.decathlon.com.au/c/mountain-sports/hiking-trekki…
They're a bit like the Aldi of sports gear with their in-house products. Good value, quality should be generally decent with a few gems, but would be best to check out in store.

  • Aonijie C9111 maybe. Well reviewed, lightweight, has shoulder strap pockets for bottles/phone/keys etc, and should be within budget.

Would also suggest a pack liner (rubbish bag/nylofume/dry bag etc) instead of just a rain cover as they're generally more effective at keeping your stuff dry.

Take a look at the Deuter Aircomfort back system https://www.wildearth.com.au/buy/deuter-ac-lite-24-black/342082470000

  • there's always going to be tradeoffs.

osprey talon 20 or 30 for something more hiking focused.

Osprey metron for more commuting to work

Something by Deuter or Osprey. You get what you pay for

  • Carradice Super C SQR Slim is my preferred commuter bag, wholly sweat free; add a backpack for overnight trips.

    • Thanks. I prefer a backpack for cycling. Yes, i get a sweaty back, but i swrch bikes regulalry and much prefer bike handling charcteristics when the weight is on me rather than the bike.

I love my Deuter backpack for cycling. I'm on my 2nd one, first one lasted about 10 years. No sweaty back for me.
