Transferring GBP 50,000 to Australia

I'm getting about GBP50000 sent from the UK

When I compare my bank rate with XE, the difference is about $3000

Is XE safe? My quick research says it is, just wondering if anyone had used them or can recommend another way

Thanks

If you want to send from AU to somewhere, just use the UP bank as they use wise for their external transfer, and you get security of an Australian local bank. Maybe something similar exist in the UK.

I've used Wise for large transfers but may be call them first and let them know in advance.

I have used Wise and XE for amounts beyond AUD$20,000 without any issues. I usually check the rates and use either one depending on the overall costs. When comparing with multiple banks in Australia, Wise and XE were much cheaper. I would never use a bank for currency exchange.

    • Can I ask how you make the transfer from the source account to XE? Wise wants me to wire funds but my US bank requires me to be in branch to do a wire…

      • Both were simple direct debit and/or bank transfers. I never had to go to an actual physical bank

        • I think for wise you can do a direct debit but max is $50k and fees are substantially (10-15x) higher

  • Thats GBP, price goes up if its USD

  • I use Wise regularly. Never had a problem and it arrives within minutes Monday to Friday.

    • Was your very first transaction done in minutes? Id assume its only fast now because you are established?
