Where to Buy Good Quality E27 to B22 Convertor

Hi all,
I recently received some B22 smart bulbs as a gift, but unfortunately all the light fittings in my home are E27. I've been searching for E27 to B22 convertors so I can use them, but I can only seem to find them on eBay, Temu, or AliExpress — nothing from local Aussie stores or more reputable retailers.

Just wondering:

  • Has anyone used these adapters from online marketplaces before?
  • Are they safe and compliant to use in Australia (in terms of electrical standards)?

Would appreciate any advice or recommendations.

    • Yes, exactly this type of convertor. It's currently unavailable on amazon.

  • Ikea used to sell them

I need the opposite of this. The bulbs are B22 and fittings already installed are E27.

    this mob

i cant say for sure on this particular item but this company has been around for many years.

just check everything fits together snugly prior to fit-off - that's probably the only issue i could foresee.

    • Thanks, this is exactly what I need.
Just worried if they're safe/complaint to use. I'm not sure if the upper plastic part will be an issue or not, as it will be touching the bulb.

im sure they could answer you if you got in contact with them.

safety wise should be fine as long as contact is good (but being b22 and e27, both should be very good by design in theory)

compliance, i dont see anything stamped on it in the product photo - not that a stamp really guarantees anything. Chinese factories stamp all sorts of labels onto stuff without the proper paperwork to back it up all the time :)

        • That's true.
I will call and see if they can give any more information.

Thanks once again for sharing the link.

          • @StraightGuy: also just off the top of my head - Maybe if the b22 has springs on the bottom and you put the lamp into a sealed fitting it MIGHT create enough heat to melt the plastic/deform springs and cause failure that way - chance to cause a fire…pretty low - but never impossible.

If its in a table lamp or whatever with decent cool air convection I would say its fine.

Otherwise, get an electrician to assess if they can swap the lamp holder directly on your fitting/s - then you wont need to faff around with this kind of adapter and sleep easy* at night.

            • @Jimothy Wongingtons: That's what I'm worried about it as well. It would be great though if I can replace the whole fitting and skip the convertor.

              • @StraightGuy: Or, buy new globes instead?

If these are Phillips Hue then sure, they're pricey, but otherwise if they're relatively generic then it may be easier just getting different smart bulbs with the right connector

                • @spackbace: These bulbs were the gift, I will check if I can get like a gift receipt or something or if they can replace them with E27 bulbs.

    AliExpress has plenty.

And there is no rocket science nor "dangers" with light globe adapters.

Not exactly B22 but we bought and use many variations, in particular E27 extensions to fit on down-lights. No issues at all.

    • No signs of melting plastic or anything?
If no, then it's pretty good.

If you don't mind, can I ask if you bought them from aliexpress?

Yes, no signs of overheating nor anything negative.

Yes we bought them from AliExpress quite some time ago so have no further details

        jv just got out jv'd.

The real jv was the friends we made along the way

      • The rainforest?

        Nope.
The big rainforest is called the Amazon rainforest and is also known as the Amazon jungle or Amazonia.

And no, there are no African Pygmies there.

        • I think jv meant a store that sold pygmies… as well as E27 to B22 converters.

You can buy these anywhere online. But they add a bit of length, and a lot of smart bulbs are kinda long themselves, so it might not fit inside whatever light fitting you have.
