Rising price - Nexus 4? ($496 for 16GB at Harvey Norman)

According to the Harvey Norman website, the 16GB Nexus 4 will be available from 1 Feb 2013. However, the price is almost $100 more than the Google Play. Does it mean that Google is going to rise the price for Nexus 4?

  • There has been reports the delays are due to the manufacturers bickering about price for the handset, so it's quite possible.

    1. Google's Nexus 4 pricing was design to shake up the market.
    2. Since day 1, buying the Nexus 4 from third party has always cost $100+ more.

The reason most likely has to do with Google strategy to sell at cost or very slim profit and make back money via the Google Play + ads. Retailer cannot compete at this price as they have to make a profit and cover expenses.

According to LG, the Nexus 4 availability is due to Google failing to correctly estimate demand. Official word is this problem will be rectify in Feb 2013.

  • Maybe, maybe not. That's around the price many online sites have been selling it. When buying from Google Play you need to pay $20 shipping.
