Received an SMS from Ausgrid today to say I may be eligible for a GSL1 payment due to an outage. Seems they pay you $120 for an electricity outage over 20 hours. Sure enough had a long one earlier this year.
You have to submit a claim which is pretty simple for the $120 payment, but you can claim extra compensation for things like lost work or spoiled food providing you have evidence.
I never knew you could claim for this?

FYI not just Ausgrid, all electricity networks have GSL for outages. Check the website for their time limits and claiming process. Take pictures of spoiled food etc if you have to throw away meat as can be claimed. Most have to have an unplanned outage for more than a few hours to qualify.
No GSL for planned outages.
