Msi claw that overheats, intermittent fault, very unlikely to duplicate in-store, sometimes shuts off after a few minutes, sometimes after a few hours. Get to choose refund over repair/replacement since it's within 30 days?

Officeworks use Solvup and might go off for repair
We do use solvup but whether it gets repaired or replaced depends on the brand. For example Apple have a DOA period of 14 days whereas Lenovo is 30 days and Microsoft is almost 180 days. Pretty sure MSI is 30 days so in this case OP will get a refund since it's in the DOA period (and we can replicate the fault!)
