Booking.com: 12% (13% SB Plus) Cashback on Accomodation / Hotels (Was 5.5%) @ Shopback

170

Shopback Plus users get 13% cashback, 12% Cashback for Hotels for regular users.

Here's some important tips to make sure you're paying the lowest prices:

  • Booking.com may display a higher hotel rate / price when shopping through a cashback provider . This is usually the case for a lot of chain brand hotels. I recommend opening two different types of browsers (e.g Firefox + Chrome), one with cashback enabled and one without, and compare the prices side by side to see which hotels raise their prices.

  • Prices displayed on the Desktop site and through the Mobile (App) can be quite different. I recommend doing your preliminary research on the desktop site first, but complete the booking through mobile app. About 50% of the time, I usually get offered a lower price (Mobile-only discont)

  • Be sure to read the booking terms properly as some of these discounted options come with a big catch (non-refundable booking). If you are booking far in advance, it's worth paying the extra money for free cancellation, just to cover your buttocks in case your travel plan changes or if you find a better place elsewhere.

From my experience though in booking 2/3 star hotels in Singapore and Japan, I didn't see any price increases with the cashback activated, but your mileage will vary depending on the brand of the accommodation.

    Any CB for trip.com ?

There’s very regularly 10%+ cashback for any of the hotel booking sites (bookings, wotif, agoda etc) across shopback, cashrewards or topcashback.

Find your destination, check cashback options, look for hotel. If nothing going, book refundable room, check a few days later and book again if cashback is available.

    • Agoda has been on Japanese news lately for fumbling guest's hotel bookings. https://english.kyodonews.net/articles/-/55901?phrase=nhk&wo…

Agoda is probably who i least use of the 3 listed (often just not as cheap as others), though occasionally their over-complex discounts do work out, or they’ll have a room available where no one else does. I booked about 14 nights in hotels last month for vacation, only 1 was with Agoda.

Also worth mentioning, if you find a hotel you like - always worth checking what they offer if you hook direct!

    • I was looking to book holidays in Cairns and after applying cash back through cash rewards on booking.com, booking directly from hotel's website was still cheaper. Of course this may not be true in every case but I always check before using such promos.

Make sure you check the site without Shopback to make sure it is really a deal. Last time I booked direct, it was cheaper than booking via a cashback site even with the rebate included.

…and check booking via phone vs computer. Differences happen here too!

  • Does Genius booking discount invalidate CB?

    • +1

Doesn't. I'm up to Level 2 now and all of my cashbacks have paid out so far (touch wood)

  • I've had great tracking from Shopback - about $2000 back now across multiple trips.

Never found direct or on the desktop website to be cheaper. If anything the mobile/Shopback version actually offers better rates.

  • I have a couple of hotels booked for an upcoming trip which are all cancellable, was wondering if anyone has cancelled and been able to rebook straight away and still get cashback

    • +1

I've done this a few times - but best to first check if the room category you want is still available before you cancel. Depending on the accommodation, releasing your hold on the room doesn't necessarily put it back into available inventory and the same price.

Better to rebook first, then cancel the original booking (just make sure to cancel the correct booking!).

      • Alrighty will do, thanks!

    • +1

I've done this plenty of times.

I err on the side of caution and rebook the room first to make sure it's still available.

Then cancel the one I don't want.

  • 12.5% for Hotels via Wotif on TCB.
